Should this thread not be just about international travel to and from the DR ? Which a lot of people are interested in knowing about. Either you want to visit soon to see family or for business or you like me want to know when it’s possible to travel out as before and not just with ferry flights. And we all want to know when tourism resumes the package/resort tourism as its so important for the economy. Did the ferry flights Delta and Jetblue to the US end ? Or is there now a regular flight where you can get on if you have a good reason to fly during the National Emergency.

Ferry flights continue. There is one on Tuesday from SDQ to JFK.

There is still no current regularly scheduled service..........and not likely to be for at least several months if Medina follows the script laid out in the steps for opening that were posted by caribmike in another thread.

As to the resorts, I posted that one, that I have direct knowledge of, indicated a November 1st opening.

State of emergency looks to be extended for an additional 25 days.....we will know this coming week.

Respectfully,

How many businesses have you opened and ran successfully ? How many are you comfortable to let fail ? Because you seem to say it's not big deal as long there are no deaths ? Heck many of those who died from coronavirus may have been within a year of dying of other existing health issues, or pneumonia just from a cold or from being bed-ridden.
Business must be saved because they are the life-blood of a healthy nation, so that means letting them reopen.
Dont close an economy because someone may get sick.. If you are susceptible, personal responsibility and protection are the order of the day. But dont kill millions because we need to eliminate ALL RISK of you getting sick

American Airlines has regularly scheduled flights from PUJ to MIA starting in a week.
Does anyone know what the Dominicans do to arrivals on the ferry flights running now?
Hopefully travelling May 11

My understanding is that a ferry flight arrives here in the DR empty and fills up with Americans/US Residents and some other foreigners here to travel to the US and some further to Europe being repatriated. I may be wrong.

The DR borders remain closed to all foreigners for the foreseeable future. Even if you found a way to get here, you would not be permitted to enter the country (citizens/legal residents accepted). There is no point going on and on endlessly about this until this reality changes. If you would like to know when the borders may open, best to contact those who will make that decision. No one on this forum knows and another 380 posts isn't going to change that.

That is correct.

Jetblue is currently using Embraer 190's (smaller) instead of their normal A-320's for repatriation purposes.

Delta/Jetblue/AA are all showing regular flights resuming to the DR in early May..................those will likely be cancelled this week if Medina's State of Emergency powers get extended.

Agreed and many more will die in moto accidents to and from work this year in DR than die of coronovirus. Shouldn't all motos seized ?

The Senate this evening just approved an extension of Emergency Powers until May 25th. Chamber of Deputies will vote on the measure Tuesday. If approved, Medina will likely continue the lock down for arrivals of international travelers, by air, land and sea (repatriation flights to continue).

Nothing to do with the virus but yes. The one thing I still find annoying is the constant noise and other pollution from the motos and the attitudes of the young hooligans riding them. I have not taken a moto in years and have no intention of ever taking one again. Make them disappear.

A friend of my wife's, a Dominican citizen from Moca, was repatriated from NY last evening on a Delta flight. They are all now in 7 day quarantine in Santo Domingo.

The takeaway is that any possible commercial flight resumption, and there seem to be many here waiting/hoping for a speedy resumption, would likely come with a quarantine for at least 7 days..........and if this repatriation flight is an example....................it is not a self quarantine.

Anyone knowing about repatriating flights to Europe: Hearing rumors about the German embassy trying to organize one but it was impossible to get any details. Webpage says it finished 25th of march. By the way there is a list of hotels in operation on the embassy webpage, according to the closing/opening document of the government hotels are supposed to be closed 4 more month...

Delta announces that they might resume flights to DR

Here’s a snapshot of where Delta is planning to fly in May. This schedule, including routes and frequency, remains subject to change due to the evolving nature of COVID-19. Specific restart dates will vary for previously suspended routes due to the lifting of travel restrictions and other operational requirements. This page may be updated.

*denotes service will restart in second half of May

  • New York-JFK to Santiago, Dominican Republic (less than daily*)
  • New York-JFK to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic (less than daily)

Vamos a ver, but it looks to me that it will resume before the summer.

7 days ? The quarantine should be 14 days. Well, at least, that s the number, they keep on throwing.

I don't think it would be feasible if/when commercial flights resume, don't think DR has facilities for quarantine for daily flights. I suspect it will be self-quarantine for logistic reasons.
