Regarding tourists and tourism -

My opinion is -

Yes, the world and the DR are changing.... no more 'old' normal

Visas will be altered

The face of tourism will change.
Firstly, IMO, the initial tourists will be aimed at Punta Cana and the AI's
Like a quarantine - they will arrive , be escorted to their destination,
mingle among themselves - nobody outside the resort -
and be escorted to their departing flight.

Not difficult to facilitate and gets the hotel/tourist of to a start.

Now - the independent tourist.... who wants to step off the plane and go where the wind blows them -
That may be a while opening up
The 'free roaming' tourist will change for sure ... IMO

Perhaps - if you apply for residency - you'll be allowed to enter to complete that.... seems reasonable to me.

We know the DGM has been tracking overstayers....
Now, those overstayers are at a distinct disadvantage.

We have yet to see how this will develop...
but for sure...
the tourist industry will get a push... too large a factor not to get help.

as we have always said.... the AI tourist is the one that drives the industry
They will be the initial focus as I see it

The others will wait - IMO

I'm going out on a limb here and say agree. The independent is generally a non contributor, although there are exceptions. To generate revenue from the lambones, offer them a residency route and charge a premium. If not, buh bye or get a chip in their arses and parachute them into an AI.

Makes perfect sense.

Also, it looks like some of the other smaller islands are going to re-open before the DR. Although it s not exactly the same type of clientele since they tend to be more upper market, with perhaps the exception of Jamaica, I am sure the government will take that into account.

There could definitely be an agenda relating to international immigration. Getting it more under control for public safety.

I think it was meant for a "public" beach not a beach that is in front of a hotel. I guess?
those beaches in front of the hotels ARE Public Beaches.
for example here in Punta Cana/East Shores,
the only Private Beach Miles are Playa Blanca at Punta Cana Resort&Club.
all the rest on the east is Public, including the beaches in front of the resort properties.
the ebaches theer are not part of the resort/hotel private property.

About the discussion reopening tourism in DR with this fabulous plan to desinfect the hotels as main idea:

just see what the competition is up to:

Austria has a tourism industry like DR and has same sized country like DR.

they will do 65000 tests weekly, everyone in tourism has mandatory to test weekly.

whole DR has not even done 65000 test in 3 month.

do they seriously think with ridiculous things like desinfection they are going to win the tourists back when the conpetition has weekly free tests included? They dont even know the case numbers in the country with such little test. Under a certain number of tests per capita no one can trust case numbers. No propaganda can make up for facts. They have to get the act together on testing and fast. Once others do the weekly tests, places who do not, loose.
a tourist in Austria also pays per night just for a non AI accomodation of the comfy mid class more than 3 days all inclusive cost in DR, often even with airfarecounted in, lol.
completely different kind of vacation, different kind of destination, different kind of clientel.
such additional costs teh averageAI Traveler to the Caribbean will not accept to be added to the package pricing.

Forgot to add, for whatever the reason (maybe they're flying lower), the flights to New York are faster these days, just three hours.

With less flights and less crowding of the skies these days, pilots can request altitude changes to take advantage of the best winds aloft. Additionally, they are allowed to fly a more direct route, and finally with less air traffic, they are not forced to reduce speed for whatever issue (and there are many possibilities) that may occur to slow air traffic as they enter their airports approach zone.

August still seems to be the time frame before international (non repatriation) flights resume.

Respectfully,

The question I have is how will cope w/ family member visits ?

A special dispensation ... a visa permit ?

If , If ... such a thing comes to pass

The natives are very quiet on this issue today
Normally--- they pounce ....
JUST PAY THE EXIT FEE ! RESIDENCY IS CRAP !!!

Silence is golden

I honestly don't know. If they quash the exit fee, as in make an overstay impossible, then they need alternate route to that particular income. Although half at best is reported to the DGII. I wonder how much they collect annually in this overstay fees W2. Last time I had to pay one was the last time I was ever on a plane. Year 07. 100 big ones. Zero receipt given.

Those Ai's will be up & running first and foremost......
