Here's another. Basically, they're stillplanning on opening the airports on july 1, but if phase 3 is delayed, phase 4 starting of july 1 will be delayed. Not looking good for juy 1st;

I think what they are saying is that they are staying in phase 2, but implementing parts of phase 4 before they do phase 3. It does make some sense. Just my opinion, but the mass gatherings contemplated in phase 3 appear much riskier than a controlled environment such as an airport with strict protocols. I'm probably biased though.

You might be right, but it sounds more to me like they're softening people up for the eventuality that airports will not open on july 1st.

The mixed messages and doublespeak is irritating.
" mixed messages and doublespeak" in all other countries across the universe, especially in the DR, it is also known as, "they really don't know what they are talking about".Their self importance necessitates them to blow smoke out of their rear end sound system.

Leave US Politics out of this thread.

This is not the place for it.

This would be an exercise in futility. All things being equal, you expose yourself to getting infected every time you interact with anyone. Even the members of your household could infect you. The risk might be small but it still exists. At some point in time with very few exception we will all be exposed to the china export covid19. This is like trying to fight ageing to gain eternal life, it's a lost battle. So too is this penchant to avoid the unavailable. I'm in the highly susceptible group, among other things, I'm diabetic but I refuse to expect, or demand like some, that people stop living their lives for my benefit. Am I so special that merits the financial sacrifice or abliterateration of so many? I think not.

I hope we do not all get Covid19, this would lead to millions of deaths as only a small percentage of people have been infected, because of the high death rate we must social distance till we get a vaccine or treatment

I have a flight on July 7 from MIA to SDQ I've been stuck in Florida since March 10. My trip was a routine visit to see my doctors and visit with my sisters for a week. Unfortunately the China exported Kung Flu ruined everything and I'm patiently waiting to return home. I'll keep y'all apprised of any changes.

On a side note my mother is scheduled to travel on JetBlue June 18 from SDQ to FLL. I'll let you guys know how that worked out for her. In the meantime all we can do it wait. ☹
"China exported Kung Flu" this is racist

Its not USA1. And not Cuba1 either but I thought this was interesting about the opening up of tourism in Cuba https://havanatimes.org/features/details-on-reopening-cuba-tourism-post-covid-19/ Sounds even stricter than the Jamaica corridor mentioned earlier on in the thread. Sounds like a wet dream for Cuban government hardliners. That is why I hope the DR goes down another road and maintains its reputation of a free place to visit. If they the DR starts with legal residents, property owners and family they could still keep the social distancing.

Other then DR, Cuba has those ""cayos" - small islands turned into tourists resorts. The visitors will stay completely isolated there from the rest of the population. This is their advantage, but a small one, because a large number of tourists were arriving for quite opposite reason: to mix up with the population staying in private room rentals all across the island.

With all due respect to the OP, badpiece33, this thread line was created on 27 March with the following questions.....

Hey guys I am looking for some credible information as to when the Dom Rep will open again for incoming International flights? I have heard April 3rd, April 15, May 31 and beyond. Does anyone have any insight into this?

Nearly 3 months later, 114 pages of speculation/hoping/wishing/desiring, and 2200+ contributions....he still does not have the answer to his original questions. Neither does anyone else.

It makes sense to compare neighbor's plan who also have a tourism based economy ...Anyhow, my friend in Jamaica is telling me that they are testing tourists upon arrival, I hope DR does the same. As far as I know, most people arriving are Jamaicans living abroad.

@Caonabo I agree with you. just pages and pages and speculation and wishful thinking. I am not even sure DR government knows yet

As I have noticed someone posting here several times - its a forum of opinions. If we only could post known facts then there would not be much content. It was helpful for the people looking for ferry flights out and to clarify who could fly in. Maybe not info you need but a lot of others did.

You don't combat a pandemic influenza by date stamping.
The correct answer to the original question - thank for reminding - would be: as soon as the number of new cases goes down to X. There would be a supporting professional study attached to it, explaining how many is X and how they arrived at the number.
However, you can forget any professionalism in the election year in most countries to the East of China.
