Alma Morales, the representative in the country of the World Health Organization/Pan American Health Organization (WHO/PAHO), recommended Dominican authorities to close off the province of Santo Domingo, the National District and Santiago, in order to stop the expansion of the coronavirus.

Morales said that due to the increase in confirmed cases of Covid-19 it is necessary to restrict the mobility of people in these areas, where the highest number of infected people are registered. She added that 55.7% of the infections are concentrated in these three communities, with a major strain on Covid-19 installed capacity at hospitals. “The overflow of those infected who are in intensive care threatens to collapse the country’s health system,” she added.

She suggested restricting mobility or imposing quarantine again as a containment measure to stop the virus. “The only way to stop...

no need to shut down the whole country, so that approach at least makes some sense.
get people outside, keep their distance from one another & keep the elderly safe

This is stupid and way too late. Either quarantine the entire country or keep it wide open. Caribe Tours and Metro have been placing asymptomatics all around the country at this point of the game. The longer they wait in their extreme incompetence the worse it will get.

Good! Add the ban on all public transport on top of it.
And, if you ban all gatherings of 3 people or more, no lockout will be necessary. A guy may go to see his girlfried at midnight, but not loiter at colmados at any time.
Virus is no hoax, the Chinese way is unpleasant but successful.

Danilo just asked for another state of emergency so the entire the country will return to lockdown.

If it is only this - they just created some alibi measure. As long as shopping malls and metro Santo Domingo are open more and more people will die each day

I sense it is going in that direction. Doing it differently in the big cities than rest of the country.
And then do it to the rest of the country after it has already been spread by the carriers from Santiago and Santo Domingo.

We will all be locked down forever in this ridiculous country. Just like the ole US of A.

It's too late.

Why too late? As long as there is at least one healthy person we can win this war. The way is to separate the healthy from the infected. Perfect separation ist impossible, but the degree of separation makes the difference between winners and losers.

Clearly the DR has decided to act again to slow the spread. To do this they need to keep people from gathering together, traveling all over the place. What this practically means is anyone's guess at the moment but curfews, beach closings, and the loss of public transport seem to be likely targets. We'll just have to take the next few days to prepare for big inconvenience until we hear what's going to happen. Got food? in case they go nuts for several 24 hour periods of complete lockdown.

There's a family in Padre Granero, puerto plata that has it. I'm not sure how they are quarantining, but I expect it to still spread.
