The USA leads the world in testing by far and the more of it the death rate plummets. And no you are off on new cases a day in the EU.
And remember you can die of a gunshot to the head, have cancer in a hospice 2 weeks left, or anything at it counts as a CV19 death.
Any and all of the emergency money is dependent on your Coby numbers, regardless if you are DR or NY state. Folks are only dying of Coby now. This is because your antibodies for the common cold get you the + result. How else can 47 out of 50 tests come back +

I think the DR needs to choose between the EU/UK and the USA because given the current state of the pandemic, they can't do both. In the EU/UK, they are dealing with a few 100 cases/day, but in the United States, there is currently 50,000/day.

I think if the DR could knock down its numbers, it could open up the EU/UK and vice versa. (Costa Rica has a similar policy going).

Or, they could open the USA, but honestly, I have a hard time imagining that being much higher than currently, but I guess you have to recover from somewhere why not the current dismal numbers.

I'd quite dithering and go one way and sacrifice the other for the near term.
The DR has in a way chosen the US and they did that by opening the border the 1 of July. They require the test at airport and will send a case to a Covid Hotel. Thats my understanding. It does not matter where you are from. The US is a lot closer and they will easier be able to fill up flights.

Actually China is the favorite son of the DR for a long time. Sorry US. China has been bleeding it's population into the DR for 2 decades now with the help of "loans" for power infrastructure etc. Plane loads of covid laced Chinese have been de boarding planes as long as the airways are open. You can go have your Coby pica pollo speacial on the San Vicente any night you wish!

Until now I have not heard of the DR singling out any countries citizens denying them entry.

Back to topic. Especially the tourism industry and the retail business will suffer. I have thought an idea that could help grow the economy would be to make it easier to get legal residency and grandfather people in who are overstaying now or own property through a fast track process.

Question, who are the overstay demographic. Is it a large enough number to fund this proposed program. Most are Hatian I thought. Has France or Germany taken the pole position while I was sleeping

France and Germany ?

I am not saying the legal residency should be free. Just an easier process than now. Similar to 10-15 years ago. I think back then it had a big impact.

How would making it easier for legalization help grow the economy. It's really not a difficult process. I think there may be 10 listed requirements. In 2014, I paid a.total of 25k pesos and stood on line with 3000 hatians in Marcoris. How easy could it be lol

That was citizenship right? I meant legal residency. Especially it could help in the tourist areas as its often expats who start small businesses. I think there could be an idea there.

I think, I could be wrong, that most start their businesses anyway. And there are many. Look at Cabarete. Loaded with illegals that have food businesses generating income and employing locals

there is zero proof that any chinese ever brought a single covid case to the DR.
the 2 intl brought in documented DR cases of covid are a Italian Traveler and a Canadian Lady, both arrived the same day, both at the La Romana Airport, both stayed at the same hotel in Bayahibe.
other than that, there are no reports specific to any other tourists that have brought in the virus.
what the DR is doing since the election ralleys and meetings started, is to spread the virus between ourselfs here in DR, with no foreign help of any nationalities necessary.
and yes, Chinese isa nice and to date very trustworthy business partner for the DR since a long time,
something sorrily can not be told about the DR's big partner USA, where the Presi changes deals depending on his mood of the day when he wake's up in the morning, as seen on many things like the many student Visas etc etc.
so if deciding on a business partner on past reliability, teh Chineses would be the one to choose far ahead of the US partner, even teh Russians would be the better trustworthy deal.

So many actually own property and other assets. Not smart folks, but it is very common
Well then my suggestion would be to make it easy for them to obtain legal residency based on a smaller property or business investment than the requirement now.

Mike, to be honest, you're not exactly citing sources here. Truth is we have no idea other than extrapolación, how many infecteds arrived or are walking around. I imagine a lot if you look at the recent Nagua testing results. Fact, the DR is in bed with China for years. Fact Chinese are immigrating here in droves. Fact, Gina has given the DR a lot of $$$$$$$$.

15 years ago the europeans gave a fuck on the residency programs, even that it was super easy and cheap and completely hassle free.
hence, not so long ago then, the DR had to do that Plan de Illegal long term overstayers,
a great thing to do from the DR's side, even that the vast mayority of those decades long oevrstayers been nothing of any valuable assett for the country.
so why to go back and do it all easy and cheap again? it did not work for decades back in the day, it wouldn't todays.
the DR want's new residents of a certain kind, with certain possessions, able to spend a certain amount of money on the process etc etc,
so crtain "others", formerly the "norm", can be kept out at the moment the DR would decide to catch and send home the ones who did not comply with teh regulations.
right now, they have way more important things to take careof and covid may give those some extra years or an extra decade,
but the DR has their rules set and can enforce on those at any given moment.
