Since that area is already essentially at sea level as most mangroves are, I wonder where they can actually drain the water to?

Six environmental groups have filed a criminal complaint requesting three years in prison against the Minister of Environment for corruptly issuing the promoters of the Ritz-Carlton project in La Boca an environmental permit for construction in a protected area. Others charged include the ministry's provincial director in Puerto Plata, Freddy Cruz the alcalde of Cabarete, Ricardo Linares (of the Ferreteria) for providing the heavy equipment for the work that has been done, and of course the promoters/developers of the project. The new national government takes over in a week, so just maybe ....

Money can solve many things Windeguy and it is said that a lot got passed around. But with this case highlighting the corruption of the outgoing administration, the incoming one will not want to have a high profile case of impunity for corruption so early in their administration. They certainly wouldn't want to give a green light to restart construction while the trial is still ongoing, and given the number of defendants involved this looks like it is going to be a long trial. The fanciful propaganda from the promoters that this was an eco friendly project will have been demolished, and I'd be surprised if Marriott will want to continue to be associated with the project when it is not their money that has been spent so far. IMO

The new road closed off in both ends, dirt piles on boca side and wire near the main road.
