Fine mess you got yourself into REY DE MANGU........I propose a group hug.....

It seems he violated rules governing the pitch, and earned himself a red card.
As stated elsewhere, many are on edge with the unknowns about to take place beginning Monday morning.

Cabarete
I would prefer the snowbird visa to cost more. Say, $2000-3000 per person.
It would keep the low-enders away.
I believe that would pretty much eliminate all the snowbird visitors, making it useless. Most of the snowbirds that stay at my place are pensioners, on a tight budget. However, they do have to spend money here to live, so they do benefit the economy. Cabarete, for example, would struggle to exist without them.

Not arguing, Caonabo, just observing, especially as you were quite nice to me in a previous post (I think!). :giggle:

I guess you missed the huge middle finger he gave me in a thread. Even more directly insulting in a private message to me and Carlos.

Yes, tensions running high even though on August 16th it will be business as usual in the ole DR.

I am guessing it will be even more liberal to allow foreign dollars into the DR as the economy here is literally starving for money. The new president is all about bolstering and inviting tourism in all its many forms.

If you have a cedula great. If you are in process to receive a cedula, great. If you pay 4000 pesos 2 or 3 or 4 times a year great.

Come one come all! The DR will be great again!

I hope the new president has success in getting tourism back. You know, those people that spend up to 30 days in the DR on a tourist card...
The new MIP minister promises to enforce the law correctly even on the non-tourists. You know, including the ones that overstay a tourist care.
So, it won't be long now until we see how that goes.

I don’t think it is the way to go for the dr to make it expensive to get a snowbird visa or more difficult to get residency. and especially right now. There is no point in trying to compete for American and Canadian tourists with the St Barths, Cayman and Aruba type islands who already have the advantage of being English speaking and safer and now add they manage the corona health crisis better.

Unacceptable, and uncalled for.
I have been very outspoken regarding my dislike of vulgar language within this community. There are rules, and rules must be adhered to by all, in any society or community.

No arguments Dr. Stock, again I am not the one who benefits from the cost of such, but perhaps only the increased quality of life.
What would you consider a fair price to be for a foreigner to remain here within the RD for 3 months/6 months, without residency?

Obviously you are not aware of the tightened restrictions that are currently being discussed in response to the Chinese Virus.

The new president will not be able getting tourism back in the short term (2 years) to a significant level.
CV19
You may be aware of the EU situation.
New lock downs in Spain, increase of infections in several areas.
German Travel advisory regarding Spain.
New quarantine regulations in the UK.

All this results in severely reduced EU travel to the DR.
Arriving passengers from Spain pose a risk to the DR.
At the moment there are still severely reduced flights from Canada to the DR.

Abinader already commented on the importance of relations to the afore mentioned tourism countries, above all the US.
Vásquez will do as instructed by the President.
Abinader cannot afford to slap the revenue creating countries in the face with actions against thousands of international overstayers, who pose no threat
And who bring significant revenues, including air arrivals with associated charges.
Neither can Abinader afford to offend the constructors, investors of major hotel chains in Punta Cana which translates into SPAIN.

CV19 has imposed a new reality, regardless of what governments decide.
Clients/ Tourists with money will call the shots and make their decisions in regard to their health and possible realties and fears.

All success in regards to "grand scale" tourism will be attached to the new Chinese Virus protocols which should start to be put in place this coming week. Smaller scale domestic escapes are thriving, as I can attest to.

So Mr. Boyter, I pose to you the following questions as well.....
What would you consider a fair price to be for a foreigner to remain here within the RD for 3 months/6 months, without residency?

Including wearing masks in crowded public places to protect others.
uses are needed indeed and good for all of us.

I really don’t know. I see them as tourists staying longer. What are they paying now in overstay fees ? Maybe it should be around that amount.

The tourist issue isn't that hard if the CV19 problem wasn't a factor.
Europe/UK is a mess just now... Greece has fallen off a cliff , France, Spain & others are shooting up

As for the longer visa stays - many of us support the idea but that segment of the tourist population is so small compared to the 7&14 visitor that it might be neglected for a while
I hope not

The solution is so easy and could replicate the current overstay fee structure

Obviously countries do have visa agreements depending on their relations.
Preferred countries need no visa at all.
Some countries are included in visa wavier agreements.
Visa regulations often are reciprocal.

Countries who are desperate for foreign revenues do charge.
There may be biometrics charges.
Single entry, multiple entry, 3 months, one year, family visas.
Charges may be $50 - 250 $

Obviously the DR would be smart to charge no fee visas to US, CAN, EU for cash flow to the DR.
They may include Brazil, China as they please.

Regardless RD will do as they see fit, so far extended tourist stays have been handled extremely poorly by gob.do

So what I understand from thread and the Guzman interpretation/legal opinion explained by Caonabo is that the first year its pretty much accepted the overstaying but after a year an overstayer “should consider” legalizing. Isn’t it fairly clear and actually strong words and maybe thats the practice that will be more formalized. If you are an overstayer for over a year you should probably seriously be looking at legalizing.
