Police to get 30% wage increase in January 2021

Minister of Interior & Police Jesús (Chu) Vásquez says the government will announce a 30% increase in wages for the Police in January 2021. Speaking on the “Esta Noche con Mariasela” TV show he spoke of other ways the Abinader administration is enacting to improve the police’s finances. The pluses include that police are now being allowed to ride for free on Santo Domingo Metro, the Santo Domingo skylift and Omsa buses.

Vásquez also spoke of the new food program recently signed with the government Inespre food agency. Inespre will be operating one Saturday a month at Police headquarters where police may purchase basic food products at extra low prices.

Likewise, Vasquez says that 1,000 new apartments are being made available for persons in the police force.

What will they be taking home after the new raise
(before theft and bribes) like RD$11,000? They made
around RD$7,000 when I first moved down here.

I agree with that in theory, but unfortunately I have a feeling that corruption is so deeply ingrained here that it will be a long time before it stops.

like trying to find an honest politician ......and they cant use the excuse they are not getting a livable wage

Agreed....... It would make sense if it was only the low level police that were corrupt.

Not that they don't deserve decent wages, mind you.

If you look at countries that drove corruption out they always started with these steps. First arrest and imprison some politicians then give the police and military a liveable wage. Then start arresting corrupt police. Abinader has the right ideas

True, but this wage increase along with an increased crackdown and punishment for corruption is what will help turn the corner.

But the wage increase had to come first.
