By the way just to avoid another 32 pages of questions. Pharmacies are open as normal until the curfew and can then deliver until 11pm

I'm hearing rumours that the curfew is about to be loosened. Beginning Wednesday Jan 27 the hours should change:

Mon-Fri 7pm with 3 hours grace travel time to get home
Weekends 5pm with 3 hours grace.

I do not have a confirmed source so we'll have to wait a bit for confirmation.

Government changes curfew schedule due to low contagion curve.

The Dominican Government announced today a relaxation of the curfew, in view of the fact that they have seen a reduction in the contagion curve in the Dominican Republic in recent weeks.

Raquel Peña, vice president of the country and in charge of the Health Cabinet, reported that the curfew will be as follows:

From Monday to Friday from 7 at night until 5:00 in the morning. There will be a grace of free transit until 10 at night.

On Saturdays and Sundays the curfew hours will be from 5 in the afternoon to 5 in the morning, with a grace of free transit until 8 at night.

The new measures will be in operation from Wednesday, January 27 to Monday, February 8, the vice president announced.

The new provisions are contained in decree 037-21, signed by the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader.

This announcement is definitely premature in my opinion.
Why?
Because many Dominicans get their information
from social media and by word of mouth so once
word gets out that the curfew/ hours of transit have
changed, there will be many people who get caught
in violation of the "protocols" simply for not understanding
when they are "allowed" to be here or there. This
announcement has BAD, BAD, BAD written all over it.

Jan 27th to Feb 8th is only 14 days/ 2 weeks...
a the roller coaster ride continues!!!!

A lady I know runs an association of bars and she met with the president earlier in the week along with several others. Basically the message they were giving was that unless things were relaxed, a whole load of businesses were going to close. So many people really on the edge financially I think Abinader had no option but to listen.

Raquel Peña did say today that things were fluid and the new schedule is not cast in stone, so if the numbers get worse, it will be tightened again.

I see this as a good sign.....

I heard today at my local 'joint' about people getting scooped for being out after curfew.....
Night and 1/2 a morning in jail.... taken there in handcuffs....

The fine used to be paid 'on the spot'..... NO MORE !!!

Now you get a 'multa' - a ticket....
Pay at Ban Reservas

These new guys are at work......no more skimming at the local level

The new schedule only for 2 weeks starting Jan 27th. I would not go as far to say Abinador is listening. The Health Minister can easily roll it back if he determines people are "misbehaving" again.

Where there's a will there's a way. I'm surprised you think that WW.

And it is not like we did not already have this schedule of times before. I expect many more months of restrictions with the focus to remain on AI resorts.

A more reasonable curfew gives everyone a chance for a more reasonable life. Still a restriction without a proven cause and effect.
As I have said before. A grand worldwide experiment on humans ‼️ This is just Dominican style🇩🇴.

On this point we agree. But then, I am a libertarian.

I am a libertarian too. Your right to swing your fist ends 1 mm from the tip of my nose.
There you have it in a nutshell.

I do disagree with one basic tenet of libertarianism, which you might have guessed already.
I am no fan of open borders. On that I hold more of a conservative position. Did you notice that?
A follow the rules of the land as written approach for me.

You have a problem with illegal immigration sir. I did not know that.
This thread is about "toca de queda" in the 🇩🇴.

Multa had been revoked. Currently there is no fine... Just a night in local holding facility (stadium, etc.)
