What's the situation at the island Saona ? Curfew enforced too ? Thinking about spending a weekend there... Due to the current situation regarding the curfew...

I would also like to see an executive order redirecting the funds of those
who support these draconian restrictions to those who's livelihood's they
have destroyed. Take away their cushions and I guaran damn tee ya, they'll
change their tune real fast.

Which is pretty much what has happened in the case of AI's, the owners have whinged to their friends in government and have been given special exemptions.

I suspect the boats to and from the island aren't running because these are mainly day-trip boats and there isn't time to day-trip between 9-12. If you want a weekend away from curfew restrictions, the only option is an AI at the moment and there are some serious bargains out there.

Yes, I'm thinking about arrival on Friday and return on Monday - so the transport to the Saona shouldn't be a problem ? Weekend on the island without day trippers sounds even better... :) Provided I wouldn't have to be locked up there after 12:00 too...

Regarding the AI... I'm not much into this kind of establishments... I rather prefer something quiet... Anyway, could you please advise what resorts do you mean ? I'll take look into it... Thank you.

Yes, the new curfew from Monday is:

Mon - Fri: 5pm everything closes, 8pm back home
Sat & Sun: 12 midday everything closes 3pm back home

All bars closed
Restaurants open during curfew hours

GRID LOCK

I made the mistake of not leaving the city (Santiago) until 11:20am Saturday.
Worse traffic jam I have seen in over 20 years of driving here.

My normal less than 10 minute drive took over 40 minutes.

Another note to be aware of here in Santiago, Pola (La Sirena) is open until 12 noon, BUT, they close entry to the parking lot at 11:00 am.

They certainly are running! Remember that tourists from AI's are exempt from all of this. That being said, the normal volume of buses and vans on the Autopista are down significantly.

At exactly 8pm in Bavaro,,,,Its on my dash cam...which everyone should have.., I was entering White Sands...Two cestur on a moto in full camo so you cant see names or faces,,stopped me for 15 minutes telling me they were going to take me and my car to jail, when my condo was 30 seconds away. It didnt matter that I am a retired cop..They didnt care about that. They got on the radio several times. NEVER offered propina..At this point,,I reverted back to the Mexicans did to me when I was a cop. No speaky da spanish..no entiendo,,lo siento.. no entiendo la problema..... I understood a little,,like presso,, but just started playing really dumb with no entiendo after everything those idiots said,,,,and they let me go... but it was at least 15 minutes...

Today in Santo Domingo there were considerably less police than last week on the Malecon. Last week police absolutely everywhere telling people they weren't allowed to sit down, weren't allowed to take photos, no buying ice creams. Today much larger crowds and the police just breezed past everyone, didn't care what anyone was doing. I get the impression that the only thing they are bothered about is no movement during the curfew and all bars closed. Other than that, anything is permitted.

If I had to bet $8.68 I would bet that the only thing they care about is bad publicity.

There is no mention of businesses, bars and restaurants being allowed or not allowed to reopen, what's the deal with that??

Actually it was covered within the official announcement.
Restaurants (serving food) are permitted to be open. Bars (solely serving alcoholic beverages alone) no.
The restaurants may be open to seating of diners up to 50% capacity of the restaurant until the curfew hours begin.
Once the curfew begins, they can still offer delivery only services up until 11pm, if they so choose.
If restaurants in your particular area choose to remain closed, or close earlier than the beginning of the curfew hour, that is their decision.
Obviously, different regions of the country will have more/less options depending on where you choose to reside/visit/vacation/bide your time.

Also, no gyms to be open. Mucho suck.
