Has anyone else heard the rumor that the government is getting ready to remove the curfew completely? One of my friends who is a police officer heard today at the Palacio that this could happen from the 15th (Monday) but she stressed it was just a rumor and is trying to find out more concrete information.

Just checked and another friend who is military also heard the same thing today. Before I am accused of being deluded and having mental health issues, I am only repeating what I have heard but it seems a rumor is buzzing around the police and military to that effect.

Clearly you aren't someone who is trying to make their living running a hospitality business. They are completely on their knees and mostly in a lot of debt.
I don't really see how curfew starting at 9 pm affects hotels. If your hotel guests can't go out after 9 PM, they will consume some food/beverages at your hotel premises instead of spending money in an outside restaurant. But I see how curfew reduces night crime and makes the city quiet at night.

I know that some bars in Colonial Zone are out of business. But if you ask me, what's better, if all bars will close permanently, or if street punks will not drive around at night looking for stealing something or just making noise with their cars and motos, I prefer the latter. I wish this 9 PM curfew will stay forever, at least in Santo Domingo.

I'm not talking about hotels, I'm talking about bars, nightclubs, restaurants, companies that supply liquor to these businesses, companies that supply sound equipment to these businesses and so on.

Personally, I would love to see all nightclubs closed and their sound equipment confiscated, LOL. The same is about bars in Colonial Zone, maybe it will reduce that urine smell in every corner around them. And actually, everybody is free to buy liquor during the day and consume it at home at night, right?

But .. I clearly understand that curfew will end eventually, just because policias are tired of enforcing it, at least for their current salary. I know that Abinader promised US 500 minimum wage for them someday, but that day is not on the horizon yet. So yes, sooner or later curfew will end, but I still wish it could last forever, in my opinion it's the best thing that ever happened to this city.

Sounds like someone might find there life much happier and quieter out in the country side. Something to be said for the vibrant nightlife atmosphere that so many places in the Dom Rep offer. But granted it's not for everyone. Things need to get back to the way they were so people have the opportunity to live life again

Vibrant nightlife atmosphere? Are you kidding me? Where? Honestly, I don't remember any 'nightlife' in Santo Domingo that was worth to leave home after dark. Before Covid, if I wanted some real nightlife, I used to take a flight to US, Panama or Colombia for a week or so, and then come back to DR until I want the next trip. In Santo Domingo all you can get at night is unnecessary noise and high beam headlights making you blind while driving.

Curfew made the streets around my place quiet and calm at night. I like it. If there are some bar owners suffering, there's a Government that is elected and paid to think and care about them, but I am not. I doubt that they think about me and my problems, why should I even think about them? If all bars and so–called nightclubs here will disappear, I will not even notice that. But for sure I notice that with the curfew there's no noise at night.

I bet that when they decide to remove the curfew, burglaries and noise at night will rise up that much that many citizens will ask Government to bring the curfew back.

Eugene I used to live in the Colonial Zone and I know your pain. I would suggest you think of moving to a tower somewhere like Anacaona. Super quiet and super secure. The plan is to turn the whole of the zona colonial into a massive tourist area with 2m visitors per year so it's not going to get better in terms of noise.

Why would the curfew end until sufficient people are vaccinated that the government thinks herd immunity has been reached?

The numbers are going down, the restrictions are being lifted in the US, most Americans are about to be given $1,400 to spend on whatever they want including trips to Dominican Republic, a lot of the president's mates run businesses in the hospitality industry, join the dots. And the old health minister was deleted, he seemed to be the one pushing for the curfew to be toughened. That's my take on what's going on in any case.

But I do stress that I've only heard this so far from two people, one police officer and one military guy. So it may well be BS, that's why I'm asking if anyone else is hearing this.

Every time I go to the countryside I'm amazed how noisy it is. Dogs, chickens, cocks, motorbikes, noisy neighbours with big speakers.

I have never said that I live in Zona Colonial. I live in a tower in Naco. And Naco became very quiet at night during the curfew. I like it.

The only really quiet place where I have stayed before the curfew was in Cocotal, Bavaro. It's the only place where I did not hear motos, cars, dogs barking, people talking loud/laughing/screaming or somebody's subwoofer at night.

I believe that many places became really quiet at night now during the curfew.
