No rules changed with the upgrade, only difference now is no Off Topic Forum.
Sadly, I think you are right about the statistics.
The closing of off Topic is likely the major reason for the decline.
But with that closing, the board lost posters with decades of experience and knowledge regarding the DR.
The vocal posters who lobbied hard and long to close it............got their wish. Interestingly enough, many of them who complained that it scared posters away..................no longer post here either. But stating the obvious. as many have, no one forced anyone to read or comment in OT.
For better or worse, the board is now somewhere between the bland/dry expatforum and closer to DominicanToday...........but without the pictures.
It is what it is Tambo..................but it certainly ain't what it used to be...............

Unfortunately they let some of the bickering in those Off-Topic threads
go on for a little longer than they probably should have and most, if not
all of the arguing you often see on here amongst us folks stems from the
permanently closed thread about US Politics.
It also ended with both sides taking a few "casualties" as it got a lot of people
permanently banned from ever posting on here again.
At the end of the day it's forum. Somedays it's informative, somedays it's the
bearer of some really bad news like when a foreigner gets murdered, somedays
it's entertaining and somedays it's boring.
Lurking is starting to look a little more attractive these days. Especially when you
constantly get attacked (baited) and called names by other members then get asked/ told
by the mods (who I respect) to tone it down due to your less then flattering response when taking their bait.
With all due respect , thats like one of us married guys being told.
What rules have changed since we single ? .. only difference is we are now Married to One person..
Everything else is still exactly the same ..

I personally have no problem with the mods, even when they have been rather quick on the trigger figure at times.
Gorgon is no longer banned. I am sure his health was being affected negatively so he chose not to post anymore.
Quality, not quantity. I also don't believe the traffic is down due to eliminating the OT thread.
The off topic forum of years past was tame compared to what it would be if we had one now.
My opinion? An un moderated off topic thread would be even more detrimental to the board than if we continue without one.
It's a different world we live in now, and the mods have their hands full now as it is.
Having met him in person I can tell you he's a really good guy. Nothing like I expected. I often wonder if he just enjoyed messing with people on here.
Either way, took it like a champ on the chin.
Here is my prediction. In the future the bickering amongst us long time members will see a sharp decline now that SKY has shined a spot light on it by creating this thread.

I miss the USA politics thread in off topic. I was truly amazed at how so many rational people kept losing their sh!t on a forum in a foreign country where no one cared.
The best ones were, when they actually threatened violence to each other until the mods stepped in. That was entertainment at its best. My crystal ball tells me that will never come back to DR1.
