Even though I would like to escape, I am thankful to be stuck in Atlantic Canada.
My son works in a covid clinic at Chilliwack Hospital in British Columbia. More than 100 positives a day. My other son is in Victoria and both him and his girlfriend have had covid , back in January. He says other than having to wear a mask he doesn't feel any restrictions to his lifestyle.

You misunderstood.

You show that you have internet access or you were able to use your phone at some time.
So what?
They ask if you have any symptoms. They will guide/advice you for treatment if needed. Accomplish? You respect a useless law.

You claimed that this was quarantine enforcement, which is bs.

It does nothing to prove that one is staying home.

Just in .... Greyhound bus lines have shut down ALL inter-Canadian routes. Anyone wishing to get to Manitoba will need to go to Grand Forks N.D. and hope for a car rental. Can't say much about other provinces.

I think they packed it in a few years ago in western Canada. The only route they had left was Seattle to Vancouver and even that one was always in jeopardy as Amtrack had the same service which was quicker.

Covid may have helped them on that route as Amtrak is down to once a week. It's very difficult to get close the Canadian boarder in the West and do the walk across. I haven't check going through Bellingham WA yet but the states that boarder AB, SK, and MB don't have any US airports close enough to make it affordable.

I mentioned earlier that at the moment it appears flying into Calgary and pay the hostage hotel fee is still the most economical route if you live in eastern BC, AB, or SK.

Not to forget the BC unessential travel ban on Highways.
BC has been split into 3 zones, stay in your zone is in effect, with police road checks at key points.
This will stay in effect at lest till May 25 long weekend.
Restaurants and bars are still closed after one month, outdoor patios are open.
Alberta has Canadas highest covid incidence rate per pop.
Canadian air travel is still severely reduced.
Not much hope for travel to the DR, unless using the US option with flights to YVR or YYC for the West Coast of CAN

The topic of this thread is the quarantine hotels in Canada, not bashing the Canadian government or debating about vaccines. I will be cleaning up this thread, but any further off topic posts here will get you a vacation from DR1.

Exactly how do you expect people to discuss COVID concentration camps *without* verging on politics? As these measures were implemented by politicians?

It's like trying to discuss the annual income of football players while avoiding the topic of sports. Lol.

The federal government announced that as of June 4 the fine for refusing the 3 day mandatory hotel quarantine will now go up to $5000 from the current $3000.
To date Alberta is still not fining travellers that won't do the 3 day mandatory hotel quarantine. Not sure about Quebec but BC and Ontario are still in on the cash grab.
This is still only for flying into Canada, if you walk or drive over you do not have to do the hotel quarantine but you still have to do the 14 days in a safe environment.

And further - Canadian PM Justin Truedope has announced that he and his entourage will quarantine in a hotel in Ottawa on their return from the G7 summit in England .

You can bet he will not be staying in a $hithole one-room prison like those in Toronto. With the $hitty food Toronto prisoners are getting. And his travel-mates to the hotel from the airport, and his next-door room-mates there, will not just have arrived from Ethiopia or New Delhi. Like Canadians arriving in Toronto from DR are being treated.

Shameful. They should all be quarantined in one of the prison hotels just like every other person arriving in Canada. I'm sure my Ottawa friends arriving in Canada from the DR would love to join with him.

Since Ottawa doesn't have any designated quarantine hotels, seems as though the big guy is still making things up as he goes along. Three days locked up alone at a Travelodge in Montreal might help him focus better.

My guess is that Trudeau will have a luxurious multi-room suite in the Chateau Laurier next to Parliament Hill at taxpayer's expense. I agree he should have to renter Canada at a designated airport and make use of the facilities available to the rest of us. I'm also pretty sure he will not have to scurry around a foreign country trying to get the correct type of Covid test although doing that in the UK should be much easier than here in the DR or elsewhere in the developing world.

Let's put it this way - he is the one ultimately responsible for the controversial, legally suspect and VERY UNPOPULAR covid-hotel prison decree. And then rubs our noses in it by virtually exempting not only himself but his entire entourage from it. If you know anything about him - you know that he has always demonstrated that he felt as if he WAS privileged. Long before he became Prime Minister

Hopefully he gets a black eye over this - and what he deserves come election time.

JD - I know you are not Canadian. But just to be clear. Justin Truedope is not the head of state for Canada. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is Queen of Canada and Head of State. The Governor General is the representative of The Queen in Canada.

He is just an elected official (albeit from a privileged and wealthy family whose father Pierre Trudeau - a former Prime Minister of Canada- was also from the same privileged and wealthy family.)

Justin was a part-time supply teacher in his former "distinguished" career.

Thanks for the clarification.

So, somebody like the Vice President of the U.S. should not be allowed any special privileges either?
