You better hope he is of age and they are trying to hustle you out of money which is normal down here. They do it with their daughters too.

As you are English speaking, if you are an American you will also be prosecuted upon your return home as Federal law makes it a crime for American citizens and U.S. residents to travel—between states or to a foreign country—to have sex with minors (people younger than 18 years old).

Unless they have all of your information, I'd just move to another hotel then block them on WhatsApp and whatever electronic means they have to connect with you and enjoy the rest of your stay.
Dominicans are notoriously lazy and it sounds like they're just looking for a easy mark. Make the hustle difficult for them and they'll moat likely leave you alone.
Next time stay away from poor young men/ boys from the campos.
"Dominicans are notoriously lazy....:" I'm glad someone finally said it. I adore them, but that's also my observation after having lived here for four years.

One of my friends said yesterday that the problem is that he wakes up early and "siempre tengo un sueño encima" (I always have a dream left over), so he needs to go back in the day and finish it off. And that's why he has to have a little nap quite frequently.

I do think we can learn a lot from their attitude, way calmer and less stressed.

Scrolling through his social media I'm seeing an old pic of him from late 2020 where he is holding a big Presidente bottle, chilling in the barrios with his friends. His friends are also holding big Presidente bottles.

If he was born in 2005 as he now claims, that would make him aged 15 in the year 2020... maybe I have been too much sheltered, but I can't picture any 15 year-old walking around and posing with beer bottles like that in the streets? Maybe it's different here.

He also has a goatee on his chin in that picture and so do some of his friends.. again I can't really picture any 15 year-old with facial hair/goatees at such a young age?
His mother is no judge. If she were, you probably would have already been arrested. They're just trying to intimidate you. And hey, posing with beer bottles doesn't mean he's an adult, since minors drinking is not a big deal here.

It's one thing everyone knowing and another confessing it to the local police. And I suspect he isn't gay anyway. Gay for pay is more likely.
I don't understand. If you gay you are gay. You could also be bi but that still makes you gay. Whether you do it for money, amusement, lust on a bet or whatever other reason floats your boat, gay is gay.

Agreed, gay is gay but this isn't the real issue. The irresponsibility of the OP to casually engage in illegal activities is the real issue. If it were a heterosexual encounter it would be equally offensive and most importantly illegal. Engaging sexually with young people without verifying age is just dumb and again illegal.

I don't understand why people are still responding when the guy / sock puppet has not said anything for at least 2 pages. But it is interesting funny reading.
It's called public discourse. Interacting and sharing ideas with others is enjoyable, as you said, entertaining. You could choose to ignore this thread but you don't because you are enjoying the various comments. Don't be a hypocrite, sit back read, relax, you might pickup a new thing or two; goodness it might even be entertaining.

It is very entertaining. Of course, that says a lot about my levels of interest.

It's the most amusing thread on DR 1 this weekend. I'm still kinda surprised that with this topic it hasn't been shut down yet.

It's far more amusing and entertaining than the Corales golf tournament

True indeed.
Can't say I was shocked when the English speaking press along with the who's who of the
DR "elites" claimed that it's the most important week of the year. Talk about being out of
touch with Dominican culture SMH....

He tried to check the young man's age, and asked to see a copy of his ID to verify it. Anyone who lives here knows that no ID is a red flag, but the OP doesn't live here. And before sex, the young man claimed to be over age.

I'm pretty certain that in the US, if a person claimed in writing to be over age and someone took steps to see ID before they had sex with them, this would be a valid defence. I think for sure it is in the UK.

You've obviously never walked down the Conde in the Colonial Zone late at night and seen the hundreds of young men out to "buscar dinero". The fact that they have gay sex with tourists for money does not make them gay. Dominicans refer to them as bugarrones. They are exactly the same as the chicas who sleep with ugly old men, they don't enjoy it but do it to get cash. For a lot of young men, the lure of RD$ 5000 for an hour of displeasure is enough.

This is a life changing event. Would you leave it up to chance of hearsay? It is called due diligence for a reason. The OP may try to excuse himself claiming he tried but in what could potentially deprive him of his freedom, he should have invested more effort. Besides ignorance or any other excuse does not absolve him of legal consequences.

Perhaps and depending on the judge it might fly but again would you play russian roulette with your freedom and your future for a paltry one night stand?

I'm just trying to put the other side of the story. He said:

"we've been chatting for a year.
I asked him many, many times, before meeting up, how old he was, because I like to be careful
And to this question, he always replied that he was 19. I have been asking him his cedula as proof of age

Apart from seeing the missing ID card, what more could he have been expected to do? Come on, we all know how many times a day you see an older tourist with a younger chica or chico, it's pretty much how things roll in this country. Those of us who live here would smell a rat if the ID wasn't produced, but this guy is a tourist, he doesn't understand how cedulas work. And he's probably from a country where it would be more unusual for a young boy's mother to jump on the blackmail bus.

I was there last weekend with my wife and some friends, never saw the gay prostitutes.

If a guy accepts money to trade bodily fluids with another guy he is gay. If he does it for money then he is a gay prostitute. Same for the girls. If they accept money from the ugliest guy on earth that makes her a prostitute. If she does it with another woman that makes her a gay prostitute. (Or lesbian prostitute, I can't keep up with the terminology or acronyms)

Gay is gay whether there is money involved or not
