Florida authorities are investigating the mysterious disappearance of several members of Haiti’s Special Olympics delegation who are missing after they checked into their hotel room in Osceola County on Monday and were not seen again.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office identified six members of the Haitian Special Olympics soccer team who have not been seen since around 2:30 p.m. at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, the Orlando Sentinel reported. Osceola County is located just south of Orlando, Florida.

The individuals are Atione Joseph Mithon, 32; Nicholson Fontilus, 20; Peter Mianovich Berlus, 19; Anderson Petit-Frere, 18; Steevenson Jacquet, 24 and Oriol Jean, 18, WFTV in Orlando reported.

Pictures and more text in above link. Leaving behind the luggage confounds the issue. Otherwise, I would chalk it up to just a way to escape Haiti.

Lets see... The Orlando area is cleaner than most places in the USA and the first time there it appears as near perfect with almost no holes or bumps on the road, houses spaced similarly and having a near perfect look for the most part, the whole area having a sort of manicured look, universal a/c, etc. Even NYC appears like a dump compared to the Orlando area. Basically, the complete opposite of Port-au-Prince.

Look at the ages of the deserters. The oldest is just 32!

Is the disappearance truly that mysterious? I think it would had been more mysterious if the entire team would had returned to Haiti.

I'd venture a guess there was practically nothing of value in their suitcases.

Well, it’s hard to argue that they couldn’t buy new clothes, toothbrush, toothpaste, etc (all the other stuff essential to pack in a suitcase). Even the most mediocre job given to illegals in the USA pay enough to replace those things within a month or less of working.

Walmart anyone? I bet that’s going to be among the first questions they will learn to ask in English. Where is Walmart?

I doubt that they would be wandering the streets looking for a Walmart.
Pretty sure they had help on the ground.
Who knows?
Maybe they have already arrived in Montreal.

Likely already with relatives/friends in Florida.

Very likely.
Late last year a group of the Haitians who live in the back of my
neighborhood were celebrating because a few of their family members managed
to cross into the US illegally and make it down to Florida.

Good for them. 👏🏻
I concur but not so good for the american tax payer and the lower rung of american society that now has more competition for low skill jobs.

The same is true here in DR. Haitians come here illegally and use resources intended for dominicans stressing an already overwhelmed system: i.e. 'Maternidad de Los Minas'. I can just see the comeback from the usual here, "Yes but the haitian do jobs that dominicans wont do". A good talking point for sure however reality paints a different picture.

Dominicans wont do certain job because the pay and conditions aren't acceptable to them, construction is the perfect example. Similar to 2 million illegal haitians are here with the vast majority of the males willing to work in this industry, will keeps the wages depressed. If all haitians were removed today what do you thing would happen to the construction industry and its wages? Do you think dominicans would eventually fill the vacancies left by the haitians or would construction simply stop altogether for eternity?

This is what reality looks like when illegals are removed. The locals step in and wages go up.
From the article:

Federal data from 2018 shows that half of the meat cutters in the state were being paid less than $12.23 per hour.

But wages have spiked upwards for Americans when employers were forced to give up their illegal workforces.

USA GDP per capita: $60,000

DR GDP per capite: $17,000

USA is more than 3.5 times wealthier than the DR.

The poorest people in the USA don't live in slums, have running water, electricity 24/7, they call 911 and in minutes the police/firefighters/ambulance appears, not a single hospital will give you something or kill you, clean streets, every bun sticks to a toiletwhen the time comes, etc.

The poorest people in the DR do live in slums, don't have 24/7 running water in their home, 24/7 electricity, they call 911 and we shall see when they get there if at all, many public hospitals are not designed for people, garbage is a problem in many places, there are not enough toilets for every bun and thetoilets that exist not all function the way they should, etc.
