I started a new thread to point out ONE big advantage we have living in the DR in regards to buying alcohol in Duty Free here.

This is the ONLY Country I know of, and there may well be more that allows you to purchase Duty Free upon landing at your destination. And for the few mathematically challenged, buying liquor here OTHER than Dominican Brands you cannot do better. The stores are owned by Duty Free America. The same store in Miami, Panama, and many other airports Worldwide. All prices are the same in US Dollars at all their stores.

Almost ALL bottles are ONE Liter except for most Rum. You figure that in the price along with many 2 Bottle Specials you can save plenty. Especially for high end Liquor..............And the best part is you buy it and take it right home on the spot................

Not only will big supermakets beat DF on price....so will mini-markets.Price! The other tread mentioned" convenience." That would be up to the buyer.
Would you like to put some cold cash on that? You have NO CLUE what you are talking about......NONE...............And as I posted we are talking about NON-Dominican products..................

I was able to get 2 bottles of 1 ltr Absolut for $33.00 (for both). I was buying for someone else but compared to prices in the supermarket and liquor stores that was a good price IMO. I have always received better prices at the Duty free on alcohol (no Dominican products).

No cold hard cash needs to wagered.
But anyone talking trash better be able to put some numbers up.
@SKY challenged me over in the Rum thread.
In the post it was said that my prices did not include sales taxes.
I live here.
In the Dominican Republic
And since I have been living here, whenever I buy anything off the shelf in a store the IBITS is included in the price that is on the shelf.
The exact amount is shown on your receipt.
Those of us that live here, those of us that regularly spend money here.
We know this.

I go hard in the paint.
Let's take a look at the numbers:
Flor de Cana 7750 ml18.45 USDRon Depot
Flor de Cana 71000 ml$22.00 USDDuty Free
$18.45750$0.025per ml
$22.001000$0.022per ml
$1.12
Ron Depot is 12% More expensive than Duty Free
Now check my numbers if you must.
I don't know if I am mathematically challenged...
But I have been drinking
An excellent new Rum that has just hit the streets.
I will be posting up about it over in the Bourbon thread.
We talk about all sprits that are available here in the Dominican Republic over there.

My friend...believe me you will not be able to back up the "cold cash" bet...#1. And who are YOU to say I have "NO Clue" what I am talking about? You are basically talking to a stranger and as such gambling recklessly and foolishly. I am in no mood to entertain you and yours in foolishness on such a beautiful Sunday afternoon. I have a pasta sauce on the stove with fresh cherry tomatoes from my garden under fire. Think about the value of taking a stand on this idiotic subject. Value=$5.00. LOL
If you want to continue the convo and wager I will arrange with Banco Haro to accomodate you and"your opinion "...big shot warrior on the keyboard.
Have a blessed day on this Sunday.

Let's continue to go hard in the paint by throwing up some numbers.
Absolut Vanilla1500$31.38Ron Depot
Absolut2000$22.00Duty Free
$31.381500$0.021per ml
$33.002000$0.017per ml
$1.27
27% more expensive than Duty Free
This is not a fair comparison. Absolut Vanilla costs more than a bottle of plain Absolut
I will check my supplier for the the price of plain Absolut.
I don't drink the stuff.
I think it is bitter.
But Absolut Vanilla and orange juice makes my Sunday mornings.

Sky===You have a very special way of debating. It has been obvious for the past two years with the subject thread of "covid" and"DR entry" For the most part I have been in accord with you. What bothers me: You have NO rights to say "I don't know what I am taking about". Might be true...but I have NO time to entertain your foolishness as I have better and more important things that interest me to do.

The information is not for you, it is for the readers of this thread and for my own information.
I would like to know if @SKY is actually onto something.
And we will not really know because he has actually not posted any numbers supporting his statements.

I too posted my experience.
And I will continue to.
Sorry, you got offended at reading hard data in response to your post.
You are both free to spend your money how you like.
And put me ignore if you are really that bothered by my posts.

I don't know about prices at Ron Depot, never been, but from my experience at Duty Free, all liquors except Dominican Rum where cheaper there in DF than any of the supermarkets or liquor stores in the Sosua Cabarete area.

This is exactly what I posted many moons ago here. I even gave two examples. But you have the one or two ignoramuses that have to argue when they are DEAD WRONG. People like this are the reason we lost a bunch of knowledgeable experienced posters on DR1.................

Our man Vegas is showing us the 'per ml' price..... a great study

You cannot refute his facts/logic

That Absolut Vanilla is 5cents a ml less in Duty Free....
Be careful b/c he must have marked the $$ at $22 when it should be $33

WARNING Will Webster - DANGER!!

I did list the price for Absolut incorrectly.
But in the portion of the spreadsheet where the calculations were made the correct number was used along with the amount.
But you need to remember that it was not a accurate comparison because I do not have the numbers on Absolut, only Absolut Vanilla which I purchased at Ron Depot.
I pointed this out in my original post.
Along with my tasting notes.
You see, I am not one of the idiots making Absolut statements about the value of Duty Free without posting up any numbers.
In my opinion the reason DR1 has lost so many knowledgeable experienced posters is because of individuals who post without facts or knowledge.
And then when you dispute them they argue and engage in Ad homininem attacks.

Ad hoiminem
  1. (of an argument or reaction) directed against a person rather than the position they are maintaining.
    "vicious ad hominem attacks"

Well that is the difference between you and I.
I have been to Playero Supermarket, GF Sosua Liquors, Super Surf Liquors.
And I can tell you that Ron Depot crush the prices in those three stores.
That is why I stock a car bar and bring it on vacation with me.
Because on areas of both price and selection Ron Depot, Licormart and Casa de Cana in Santo Domingo/Santo Domingo este are far superior to other options that I have found for liquor stores in other parts of Santo Domingo este.
You see I am not just pulling statements out of the sky and declaring them to be facts.
I am trying to put some numbers behind my statements.
Something even the OP is not even trying to do.
But he is quick to argue and call names because he cannot support his statements.
This is even after I supported his statements with real number showing a slight advantage even in Santo Domingo and Santo Domingo este of buying in Duty Free

Duty Free in SDQ does not have what I like to purchase.
And I did not find their prices to present much of an advantage.
When I arrive traveling first class with two checked bags packed to the weight limit of 70 pounds each, a rolling bag and my backpack...
I got enough stuff to haul out of the airport.

I have found one area of purchase truly be of an advantage in Duty Free.
I will discuss it in a later post.

EASTSIDE!!
