I imagine she has a bank account. Why not trust her a little bit and deposit some money in there, she can then buy her own minutes with her own money. I'm sure the money will be put to good use whatever she does with it.
Or just give her your credit card and cvv number. After all she's your new lady. You can surely trust her....

One of my friends did that. Opened an account in the US, sent the debit card to her, and topped off the account as needed. Bonus: he could see where she spent every cent.

They didn't last too long - she said he was spying on her. He dodged a bullet with that one.

Even if she doesn't have a bank account she will know someone who has one. I have never ever met a Dominican that you can't do a bank transfer to.

There are those that just don't believe in love and trust. I can see why,BUT, when it happens its a beautiful thing. Depositing $20 is VERY difficult for some.

But it requires a wifi connection or cell service with data.
Ding works but charges a hefty fee.
The poster should just get her a post paid plan for $30/month and pay it by credit card from the US.
I pay my own post paid plan that way.
Its not ding OR whatsapp. You use ding + whatsapp

  1. You use ding to send the minutes claro, altice, whatever ex. $10 for 450 credits on ding.
  2. KEY STEP - Immediately after you receive the text from ding/claro you have received the credits. You dial *112# on claro and select a data package let say 1-3GB for 30 days is 450 pesos.
  3. Now you have data on the phone to use whatsapp, skype, etc for unlimited phone calls.
  4. Warning she will probably waste all the data on watching social media, youtube. But will say it's the calls

or you add a intl calling package to your cell phone in the states, or skype and you call her unlimited. Also make sure she only using those minutes to talk to you lol. 🍿

But I'm sure she already knows that. How to get her phone recharged, and how to accept a money transfer.

The Resorts in PC pay their help with Direct Deposit twice a month into their Bank account. No account, no job. Most are in Banco Popular......................

MobileRecharge.com or their app. I used it a lot while living in USA to recharge DR phones, no complaints.

And if you don’t have an account they will often help set you up with one.

This goes without saying. They send you to Banco Popular with documentation that you are working in the Hotel. Never a problem opening an account....................

Exactly! I'm glad somebody said it.

Or maybe she works "in" resorts not "for" a resort.:sneaky:🍿

He appears not quite ready for 'real time' yet...... I wish him luck
I'm still here.. and yes she does have a bank account... I never asked her before so I assumed she didn't. BUT, she does not have enough money to buy food for her children sometimes. I have sent her some money via WU and she immediately goes out and buys food and shows me the video of her buying the food.
She makes 12000 monthly.. I know what her expenses are. Her kids used to live with the father but no longer... They now live at her house where they are without her 24 days out of the month... so she has added expenses. She has an aunt that lives close by and so does the father... But he does not contribute

I'm hoping the aunt watches the kids while she works.

If the minimum wage is 900/day, and she works 24 days a month, that's 21k pesos. Not a lot for sure, but much more than 12k.

Here and there
Dominican "minimum wage" does not cover a lot of job categories and working people, and the amount varies. If you look at the average income it is not the same, or as high as, the "minimum" wage. Many cannot afford such "luxuries" as topping up their cel minutes and rely on wifi and whatsapp

OP...IF you were inclined to stop WU payment to this young woman, what exactly do you bring to the table?? You don't live here so you are super anxious and look at snapshots of her buying food. OK...what else? You are not here for her kids. You are not here to support her when times are tough for her. You are not here for emergencies or social events that you could enjoy together .
You are older than her and may have other directions in life.

So, I ask again...What do YOU bring to the table?? Maybe, just maybe, she is legit. If so step up or step out. You alone need to make this decision not advise from grumpy old men.
