Financial wiz-kid arrested for fraud

29-year old Jairo Joel Gonzalez Duran was arrested in Jarabacoa on 13 February 2023. He is accused of fraud and operating a ponzi scheme structure. Around 70 persons have already placed claims for being defrauded by a venture operated by Gonzalez. Gonzalez was taken to the Ciudad Nueva Attorney General temporary jail to await preventive custody charges.

As reported, Gonzalez came up with a scheme that enabled him to go from being a taxi driver to entrepreneur and financial wiz, showing considerable wealth. He ran Harvest Trading Cap (registered in 2019), for investing in crypto-currency and other financial schemes.

Reminds the lawyer who hustled millions of pesos out of people with the last name "Rosario" by telling them a few gold mine's held an inheritance for them in Swiss vaults valued at millions of USD.

Also reminds me of the two young Dominican women who came to my apartment back in 2014 trying sell me "expensive" shampoo from some Italian company. I heard thru the grape vine a few weeks later several ladies my neighborhood learned the hard way as this (supposed to be) fantastic shampoo turned out to be nothing more than a mixture of lotion and cheap soap.

How about all the tree-huggers that invested in teak forests, thinking they would make 'good money' when someday in the future someone cut down the trees.........I had one moron friend who did that and told me he didn't invest in his 401K because the teak trees he 'bought' were his retirement investment. Last I heard he is still waiting and looks like the only teak he will harvest may be in his coffin.

The article referenced in the OP said he went to different parts of the world, but did not mention the US specifically. Perhaps one of the other news outlets expanded on where those different parts of the world were.

And if he does have a tourist visa for the US, an arrest and or conviction would be cause to revoke it.

And he may have.....................but, NYIF is mostly on line and California University FCE only evaluates curriculum for other universities etc., IBMI is online and the other is in Mexico.

It appears he has what was once referred to as "matchbook cover" credentials.

I've never heard of such "lofty" credentials, but that's par for the course with some Dominicans who claim to have received part of their education in the U.S. Those for-profit schools are a waste of money and time, but Dominicans are gullible.

There's the case of a famous immigration consultant who has convinced the country's populace that she graduated from law school THREE (3, III, TRES, TROIS) TIMES: Once in the D.R., once in NY, and again in FLA.

And the other consultants repeat the same BS: <<Yadira es una dura. Ella es la única que se ha graduado de derecho tres veces>>.

She may have attended law school in the D.R., but not here... not ever.
And while I ain't no lawyer, I have heard of reciprocity or reciprocal jurisdiction and/or that one can take another state's BAR exam, which would be the case with a NY law graduate seeking to practice in FLA, for I don't think there's reciprocity with those two states.

Absolutely, positively!

As a Dominican, I'm probably one of the harshest critics ever regarding all the accolades and self-aggrandizing our folks in D.R. regurgitate, especially the claims regarding education overseas. Most of it borders on exaggeration of epic proportions.
I guarantee you that this so-called financial wiz kid doesn't know his anus from his elbow... or a hole in the ground.

And the final coup de grace………he alleges that the firm…..formed in 2019…..had decades of experience in finance……..or perhaps it was meant to refer to his personal bio……but of course at age 29……I am not sure what those decades of experience in finance would look like….

He seems to be a cryptocurrency wanna be……that has driven off the same cliff as FTX founder Sam Bankman Fried and a host of others.
