Lived in Pattaya.
Lived in Sosua.
I'd take Sosua (prior to the Muppets) over Pattaya any day of the week.
And during the Muppets?

How goes the work on Plaza 1 (and maybe only)?

I was actually at the beach a few days ago when relatives from Jarabacoa wanted to meet there.
It was fairly busy with Dominicans on Sunday.

Nice.
I spent my weekend down in Stuart, FL enjoying some of the finer dining options this state has to offer.
A little different than my local Pica Pollo in La Joya. I've always been the type of guy who likes to mix it up a bit.
Haven't been up to Sosua in about a year and a half. Almost all of the information I've received about the on going construction has come from you guys.

Stuart, Saturday evening.

My first cousin, who might be coming to live in the DR, is originally from Stuart, FL. I have never visited that locale, but I have seen more of FL than I need to see for the rest of my life already.

I've lived up in that area for over 10 years. Very nice area. Hutchinson Island and the Indian River are beautiful.

I've been in between Sosua and Santiago over a month, only. Visited the beach twice about a hour every time.
Involved in construction works, finished rehab our apartment.
This was really too much... Everything was demolished including closets, kitchen and bathroom.
The worse was the bathroom ceramics removal and installion today another company is coming to install a new platform.

Whish me luck 🤞 flight back to NC is scheduled for next week

I moved to Florida eight months ago,Bradenton. I've loved every minute of it,no complaints whatsoever.
Great area including Anna Maria Island.
I think you have a much better and cheaper life there than in the DR.
With the exclusion of real estate.
Organized, infrastructure, safer in social life and judiciary.
You know what you are dealing with.
In DR nothing straight forward or reliable, except corruption and bad social conduct by a largely uneducated public.

Yet the DR is conveniently close to the US, has beaches and cheaper real estate.
It is easier to fly under the radar if you stay out of conflict.
Pick your flavour.

Agreed with you, my wife wants to buy another property here in the Punta Cana area but I don't want to. I think West Palm Beach is the place where I want to live and keep this small apartment in Sosua to spend couple months and rent it out.

Meant to be the add on # 1,028.
Florida beaches are organized.
Sosua beach is still there in it's shanty town charm.
Official improvements after years of talk have not come to fruition.
Just like the Cangrejos bridge for those coming from the P.P. side.
There is however a convenient detour in existence, DR style.

Sosua beach is part of Sosua's reason to be.
The town of Sosua is in decline, my opinion- others claim it is doing well by their definition.

You as a Dominican understand the country and have many options in the DR with US income,
Also for possible income property and future part time or full time retirement.

In the US you have many great options and equally understand benefits and possible disadvantages.
I do prefer the N.Coast, Punta Cana has nice development but I find it somewhat sterile for long term.
After visiting other parts of the DR, I like coming back to the N.Coast.

Sosua Beach is very nice, but I would like improvements of the beach and Sosua.
The difficulty is retaining some charm and authenticity, without becoming a sterile generic place.
Of course there is no cohesive plan to realize this, depending on different investors visions.

You are luck having the option of both worlds.

Does an area become "a sterile generic place" because it is populated by expats? IDK,

Among other things, it sounds like the government is reneging on the supposed agreement to build a third plaza in the middle of the beach.

I guess there was another protest in front of the Charamicos entrance to the first plaza the other day

And even better now they are blaming Mayor Willie for not supporting them. LOL

Funny they are whining about them not starting the third plaza

Have they even begun working on the second plaza at the Sosua end of the beach?

Clearly the longer this all takes the better it will be for the current vendors at least in the short term since they can continue to operate as normal

Seems like the construction of the 2nd and 3rd plazas will cause much more disruption than the1st one has.

Even the 1st plaza is likely years from being completed if ever

I would have put one plaza in the middle. That is all that is needed.
Then demolish all the illegal structures. One and done.

As for the existing vendors, they might finally be realizing they are not part of the plan.

I did mention that tear gas would be used, but not just the small amount used so far.

Did they really halt the plaza one construction?

At least they didn't have to use teargas in the church.
