I just read about it now. Somebody broke into the store and then into the safe. I was wondering what all the chaos was about this morning when I was there. The back aisle was closed and part of the parking lot.

A comma would be nice , lol
so you mean $100,000 was in the Store . thats a LOT of Cash for any store in the DR .
wtf are they doing with all that Cash ..Banks closed ?
very odd imo
I would say USD100k would be a strange amount to have on hand in the safe. Pesos ok, easily a few hundred thou up to a million or so for a large supermarket. Any robbery involving a safe always reeks of inside job

Yes, but many people use credit cards these days. I would agree that 100K per day isn't out of the ordinary for them.

I suspect they receive a lot of dollars from tourists and tend to hold on to them until they see a favorable exchange rate.
Ah, yes, almost forgot ... they used to , not sure if they still do offer CHANGE into Pesos for US Dollars , when you buy Groceries . right at Checkout .

If the Checkout person does not have enough in the Drawer, they then bring someone over . I think there was like a $400 Limit though. but yes they give Convenience Change to people who dont want to go to the bank or use the Cambio places.

$150K USD in sales/day might not be unusual for Playero but no way they're taking in $150K USD cash from customers every day. There's a lot of Dominicans in there, too, and many gringos pay with credit card and pesos.

I assume that you worked at those places in the USA where they have companies such as Brinks that pick up and drop off money. I don't know of any of those companies on the North Coast except for those private guys in a car and an armed guard.

I see the armored trucks all the time on the north coast..... bank to bank.... ATM to ATM..... Store to store
Banks yes, but I was referring to businesses. On occasion I see that white van with the small windshield at Pola. I've never seen it at Playero.

They know who did it.
The PN ain't stupid.
They know everything that goes on in this country.
How they handle it remains to be seen.

The DR has those amored trucks here... and a safe set in cement at the back of the store to drop the cash into....this was a inside theft
