I found it ballsy.

I usually have the same taxi driver to run around for errands. On occasions, I use another driver if my guy is not available.

I use my back up driver maybe once every 2 weeks and he seemed trustworthy. I don't talk about anything personal, just where I am going and small talk. But I guess he was watching my errands and seeing what I purchased. He was basically counting my money. The guy doesn't even know my name.
So the other day, he sends a voice message to my wife almost crying. That he needed 4000 pesos cash advance for a car battery he needed and he would pay me back with taxi service. Meanwhile, the day before his car was starting up fine and he made close to 3000 pesos with me(I run a bunch of errands at the same time).😒

I guess the holidays are coming and the sad stories of how one needs money. Now this taxi driver lost a client, thinking I was going to sympathize with him.

Be wary, people are paying attention to your moves and counting your money.

Learn to say no and when to cut people off.

We never responded to his voice mail.

Wagging your index finger from left to right works even better here............
I used to think that, but the negative head shake with eye contact works better, IMHO.

People need to hear about these types of incidents. The sad stories and the bad acting to find a human ATM. Too many people are getting scammed from their money with these sad stories of need of money.

I rather be happy than have empty pockets.

Today is Black Friday. What a coincidence when he needed the cash advance?😒

The holidays are here and also the sad stories.

People need the new sneakers, clothes, beer, rum and need money to take out their numerous significant other. With your money!!!

Beware.

I also learnt it the hard way (not too much money but too many times and every time my disapointment): As a gringo to lend money here means you will never see it again (if you are not willing and able to brake bones...). And you are losing someone who maybe was doing a good job for you like a taxi driver for example.

So now if someone I like is asking me for help by lending him money I prefer (if I see the need) to give a few hundred Peso as a gift and everyone is happy.

People of little faith ! I never refuse to give out a loan.

Though I do charge 10% monthly interest and take a bike/car/land/house title as collateral.....😆😆

Perhaps WE should create a thread for expats that suggests stories WE can give to those that approach us in order to pre-emept this from happening.;)
