They obviously treated him. They saved his life and gave him a chance to recover. He was not a tourist that got intoxicated and suffered indigestion from too much lava cake. He required a specialist that handles brain injuries. These type of doctors are few and far between. They don't treat sore throats and gastritis. I would direct my anger at the perp. and the staff for letting this drunken jerk consume his body weight in liquor.
Well the hospital took too long (many hours) to begin to treat him and that's on Page One of Brain Surgery for Dummies

This is much ado about nothing.
Totally agree! Her son is back in Canada getting proper treatment and that’s all that matters. It’s business as usual at the DR resorts and the private hospitals.

The mother referenced the air ambulance staff observations, and her shock at learning the skull piece was missing. All of this is contained in the news articles and information on her Facebook and funding site.

As distraught as she is, why would she lie about something like that or the fact that his treatment was delayed pending confirmation of his medical insurance or blame the hospital staff for the missed pneumonia diagnosis?

The fact that a new skull piece had to be made confirms that the original piece was definitely missing. No mystery there. The reason it was missing is the mystery. As I previously posted, the reason may be a simple one. I have no idea why the hospital staff are keeping quiet. I doubt she will seek further information on that issue from the hospital after getting her son back in Canada.

Posters on this forum know that if anything like this happened in a hospital in the US or Canada, lawyers specializing in medical malpractice lawsuits would be lining up at her door. That’s why US and Canadian hospitals have much more stringent patient care protocols.

We know that gringos in the DR do not receive fair and equitable treatment in the courts. The hospital may be banking on that. That’s why I referenced the lawsuit against Wyndham by the Canadian family who was poisoned in Punta Cana December 2023. They found a legal go around by filing suit in Canada against two Canadian companies directly associated with the resort. Smart!

The mother will cut her loses and never return to the DR. I doubt she will pursue a malpractice lawsuit and I hope her son fully recovers.
here we go! Now we are sprinkling in "malpractice". This young lad could have received treatment from a team of surgeons trained at the Mayo clinic at a MASH hospital set up at the resort and there would be complaints just because it happened in the D.R. My advice here is to show up at the medical facility with a credit card and/or someone who can run to the bank. Medicine is a business not a non-profit charity.

Definitely true. This is not the USA where they treat emergencies then get coverage info later. Remember where you are.
I was thinking the exact same thing. Often at times Westerners have a tendency to think the rest of the world needs to be held to the same stardards as they are accustomed to back home. Don't waste ya breathe. Never gonna happen..

Still remember the guy the police carted off at POP Village after he assaulted his girlfriend. He was ranting and raving about his rights as a Canadian. I felt like saying you’re not in Kansas anymore Toto. He came back to the resort a few hours later because she wasn’t willing to file charges against him. He was very quiet and attentive to her for the rest of his stay. DR jails have a way of settling gringos down. 😂

Anyone interested in another current story about how a Canadian contracted food poisoning at a Punta Cana resort and was ignored by resort staff when they called for assistance, google CTV news, Canadian food poisoning, Punta Cana Resort. A real eye opener!

Indeed.
People need not be fooled by the fancy hotels and sunny beaches. At the end of the day you are at the mercy of locals.

CR I don’t want to minimize what happened to them, it’s heartbreaking and terrible, but I have to question why they were the only people who got sick? It was a buffet at a large hotel, a lot of other people ate there that night.

Agree. The other issue I have is that many times we do not know the whole story behind the situation. People take some information and run with it. It is sad when something like this happens but many times as I said we do not know the whole story.

Plus the fact that his wife said he had iron stomach and he can eat anything. The food poisoning was confirmed by the hospital staff and they treated him accordingly. Fast recovery as well. I’m guessing he had a heightened sensitivity to something at the buffet. He might have been the only one affected by it.

Food allergies that maybe no one was aware of?

Very possible. Food allergies get better or worse with age. I loved a good single malt but avoid it now because it goes acidic on me very quickly. Started happening about two years ago. Sugar based rums and liquors I can still drink and enjoy.

All four of them were sick and hospitalized. The wife and one son died. The husband and younger son recovered.

No. That was a poisoning incident that occurred in December 2023. The incident we’re talking about now occurred a few weeks ago. Both were at resorts in Punta Cana. The latest one involves a husband, wife, and child. Only the husband contracted food poisoning. Resort officials told them resort medical staff were on their way several times. They never arrived. Finally an ambulance took him to a hospital where he was diagnosed and treated for food poisoning. To add insult to injury after he returned from the hospital, the resort offered them a few more amenities if they were willing to sign an NDA. When they returned to Canada, the resort owners, Marriott, sent them a letter touting the corporate line that they made every effort to help them which isn’t true. Google CTV news, Canadian poisoning, Punta Cana for the complete story.

Let me wrap up the bad food investigation. Some overweight gringos over indulged at the trough and guzzled too many umbrella drinks. Now they want a discount. This is news?.

If you had made the effort to read the article and see the photos attached, you would realize how far off base your post is. He is a young man in excellent shape. But then again , you’re not noted for always doing your research before you post.

I dislike propaganda. Why is getting sick at an AI news? let me know if you have any updates about the serious assault.
