Interesting recent interview by Norberis of a Dominican-American that was born in NYC, grew up in Texas and has been living for a few years in the DR (Santo Domingo).

Agree with most things he says (like at 23:08 because that’s how it is with everybody in the USA and in the DR, with everybody is every single one. I don’t think many expats go through such an intense rejection about moving to the DR from absolutely everyone. Maybe from some people and many times people with no connection to the DR at all who are easier to dismiss on that basis.)

Yet she has two channels, one in English and the other in Spanish. The one in English is the one with significantly more followers, more likes, more comments and sending her a check.

This interview already has over 2,900 views, 248 likes and about 100 comments. Her accent is mentioned in the comments at all.

Some people in this thread need to visit an ear doctor asap.

3000 views in 6 days. That's nothing. You don't make money until you hit 4000 views. Thanks for the jab though.

Really? I can't stand it or her. She's very arrogant in some of her videos. But whatever.
Accents of any kind don't bother me. I don't expect everyone from a different culture to be proficient in English without an accent. I have a friend from Edinburgh Scotland and every time I talk with her it takes me five minutes to tune my ear to her accent. She is impossible for many people to understand. She is however a very delightful person, and very smart. Same for some East Indians. This lady has a nice voice.

I guess your fluent in 2 languages like she is. Your Spanish must be great.
Now she is arrogant to you. Why is that?
"In some of her videos"...
You hate her accent and believe she is arrogant... but you watch all her videos....

Hmmmm.

Sounds like you have a crush on her but need to hate on her because she is out of your league.

Poor guy....

Fluency in any given language may not necessarily have anything do with whether or not you have an accent. I speak fluent English and Spanish, but in particular when I speak English (I've been told this at work many times), I do have a bit of accent. It may not be that strong I'm used to hearing American English. I have to admit though, watching some old English series, Cockney accent from London is something where I need to focus a bit to understand what they say. It's not just the language, it's partially own vocabulary etc. Still, it's fluent English spoken by natives.

Some people know more than one language and all of them are spoken with an accent. Speak English and most Americans will pick up that you’re Latino regardless how faint it might be. Speak Spanish and most Dominicans will pick up that you have been in the USA for a long time. Speak Italian and native Italian speakers will know.

This happens with many people. Heck, once I knew a Croatian-American woman that complained whenever she speaks English someone new will ask where is she from, but many times Croatians would tell her she speaks Croatian with an accent.

Then there are people that they don’t speak any language with an accent. That’s when things become interesting because a language that you know since decades ago you speak with an accent, but this other person learn the language the other day and the speaker it like that’s the only language they speak.

You are 100% correct about the accent. Accents are near impossible to lose. I'm an accent reduction teacher, teaching adult students to speak with an Amercian neutral accent. I have only had a few students that have lost their accent almost completely.
