Yeah doesn't sound like he is in a good place. I wonder if she has a "boyfriend" ? Likely her visa will be revoked.

Seems being a Maryland Man is not a good thing

So, the son was found safe (first paragraph) and the daughter got her VISA and a furnished apartment.
He accepted responsibility for her when she got approved. He's gonna have fun getting out of that.
A fool and his money.........

Oh I didn’t see that they updated the article! Glad he’s okay. Sounded like a familiar story of an empty apartment. She’s probably still in USA

I've mentioned the guy I knew who struggled for years to get a VISA for his GF and spent a small fortune on lawyers to do it.
When she finally arrived at the airport, she told him her BF was waiting for her and thanks for everything.
This guy wasn't as lucky.

You can’t make this stuff up. Truth is often stranger than fiction.

Super-hot chicas. I love them! However, even if they have a career, not a job as a cook or a waitress, they are working you for a visa.

Well someone should tell the father that we want more information. So many missing details. ( Poor son is probably mortified that father publicized his story )

Perhaps, but that would be a natural reaction of any parent. The usual steps are first the police and next the media.

This particular set of facts has all the hallmarks that many, including you, have witnessed over the years here. Early DR1 was a refuge for foreigners coming on and talking about the true love they found at the resort. Far fewer ever came back to tell us how they were scammed for a visa.

And yes there are successes and many of these people still post here, but those seem to be few and far between…..particularly for those who met at a resort. Today, social media has taken over for the resort worker love affairs….but likely with the same or similar results.

Respectfully,

Agreed. And even in the poorest campos young girls are taught who to look for when they grow up. I overheard an abuela telling two girls, maybe 7-8 years old, to look for an American or a Canadian man. Not long afterwards, her pretty little niece was swept away to Europe by a Spaniard, I don’t think she’s ever come back. These are girls who grew up with dirt floors. They learn young that the grand prize is a visa.

Yes, education is the common denominator, or lack there of.

I used to know of a couple of Italian guys down in Santo Domingo who were always running around with a hot young
Dominican women in their early 20s. Turns out they were pros, as in professional liars when it came to convincing these
young women they'd get them a visa to into the E.U. no problem, for a small favor or two. We're talking dozens.
Guess how many of these young women ended up getting a visa?

Beauty is in the eye of the Beholder tho
but yeagh ,If They at least Have College, and are working on a Career or something , you at least have a shot .
Even the Dude who works for NYCTA which you used to say as an Example.
But even then , take at least a couple of YEARS , yes YEARS . not Months 2 years should do it , to SHAKE anything suspicious out .. and it will shake out by then for sure.
She will definitely not wait that long if she is hustling you, or the Western Union Payment requests will be just too obvious .

Pushing it to those Limits is not as easy as it sounds, most guys don't have the Patience Nor skill for it , and they get pushed around and into Marriage without thinking it through.
.. Any younger girl who does not even speak English who wants to MARRY you in 2 months ? or so , is obviously Hustling you.

Even the OLD Italian Guys ..and I mean these Women are absolute MODELS who then of course divorce them at some point, but the relationship usually lasts about 5 years or so . So these guys are still winners . and they can AFFORD it , which is the important part.
