my group may find attractive which wont land us in some third world snake pit???
I know it sounds silly, but I feel 4 nights loitering at Cristals may become quite redundant. Im open to all suggestions...

i would call a good friend of mine, irving, at 809 345 1950. he has a place in cofresi, right near puerto plata. he will be able to show you all what to do and where to go. he knows how to have a good time and help others have a good time too. if you want more info, PM me. have fun. tell him "gringo libre" told you to call him.

I am not so sure it is a social thing that the DR hates drugs or it is an opportunistic thing for the police. for sure the police were very corrupt and would take bribes for any and everything.

such that they will let you fester in jail.. and make it as bad a s possible, so their Bribe can go up...of course once the courts are involved them the bribes have to be split with judges....you will get out , but it will cost you...if you cant afford it..then you sit.

funny thing you can get drunk as a skunk in your little compound... and all is well with the world!!!!

I dont know how much time you have, but you can rent ATVs, you can kite board or wind surf, go to whore houses, strip clubs , the beach, the disco, thwe carwash...all with in about 20 minutes each way if you are in the right spot

try to keep your liabilities to a minumum....take cabs....stay close to the place you are sleeping if you are gonna bing...leave extra cash locked up or hidden..

make it a memorable trip!! the beach the babes the sun the booze.

Im actually looking to charter a fishing yacht for one day.
Spoke with a guy named Enrique, didnt speak too much english
but it appeared he had availability..but who knows. Im looking for a decent fishing
yacht to cruise for a good 6 hours. anybody? Would also be interested in some wave runners, whats a good place for that?

there was another thread about jet skis rentals..and it was posted that in Playa Dorado complex there is a place that was renting them..

I havent heard too many positive stories about fishing charters up on the north coast..... they offer them....any of the places that book tours will probably have some offering.....I would wage a bet that if you fished for 6 hours you catch less than 2 fish...if that

Go to Sosua, a place called Passion massage/bar right on the main strip called Calle Pedro Clisante. The owner is a german guy named Peter. He speaks english and runs a tight ship. Very nice guy and he will make sure you are having a great time.

If you and your friends don't have fun there, you won't have fun ANYWHERE in the DR.

Passions can hit or miss. It's fun, but the girls are about average, especially when compared to Cristal (Mustang Ranch) girls. Also, if you go with 10 of your friends, you'll very likely outnumber the good looking girls by 2 to 1.

Best bet is to go to the main drag in Sosua during the late evening. You'll run into a club called Classico's, which is directly above a bar called Merengue. Head in any direction for about 150 meters, and trust me, you'll find everything you're looking for. At a fraction of going to Mustang.

During the day and early evening, I'd suggest Cabarete beach. Very nice, good restaurants, and it's a whole lot of fun, esp. for guys in their early 20s-30s.

Glad you've decided to leave the drugs off the fun list. That's just about the worst, most dangerous thing you can do down there. If you get caught by one of the three types of police out there (you probably will), you'll be looking at a bribe in the high 4-to-low-5 figure range USD.

I am pleased that you posted this Bob - I wasn't sure whether to have my 2 pesos negativity on this one in case anyone was involved in the fishing charter business.....

My experiences of seeing people pay quite a lot of money to go on fishing trips is that they catch very,very little and because the Atlantic is quite choppy can become seasick - especially if they have been partying hard the night before!!!

Of course - it is for everyone to choose and book their own trips as they see fit but I would have thought another choice would give you better value for money IMHO

I was swiming once round by the big house owned by Russians - PLaya Chiquita? ( Near the casino in Sosua ).
Along the rocks towards the point there were 4 or 5 locals - a bit of thread, a hook and some bread - amazeing how much they caught there.
I almost thought they were having me on and there was another Dominican in the water just hooking the fish on. Must have been a fish every minuite! Amazeing!

Pardon me for prolonging the hijack, but I couldn't agree more.
I can't remember the last time, if ever, that someone told me about a great fishing adventure, around here.
If it was worthy expedition, we would hear about it.
Better off to do something else or go to Rio San Juan and go out with one of the fishermen on his little boat, maybe combine it with a bit of snorkeling.
It probably wouldn't cost a red cent more than one of the big tours, and it would be way more fun, not to mention that you can end it whenever you want.

In regards to the fishing, We want our own boat..a large one at that, no skiffs.
Not even really to fish, we just want to cruise around, drink beers and perhaps
bring a few girls with us. I would love to do some scuba diving but no one else
in my group is certified for this.
Any land based activities worth checking out???
