As some of you may remember there was a lady who posted on a number of DR related sites from the UK TV channel 4.
She was looking for women who travel to the Dominican Republic to find ?love?.

The program aired last night focusing on the more mature in years English ladies who stay at Fun Royal and get taken out of the compound and shown Puerto Plata and Sosua.

Now ? firstly ? for those of us who love the DR for what ever reason, its always great to see the island ( my home! :cheeky: ) on UK TV.

Just wondering how many other DR1?ers saw the program and what they made of it?

My belief is that is showed exactly what we know of ?some? Dominican men who work the north coast ? and although sad, showed simply the facts of how some of the Ents teams in the hotels survive.

The guys said that they ?don?t really enjoy the vagabond lifestyle? ? he looked sad as he spoke and i believe him.

Another resort worker took out a mature lady most nights for 2 weeks, to the clubs to dance in, had his drinks brought and she claimed that she left him around ?40 ? that is in fact 2 weeks wages, but I think the girls who work their trade do far better for a lot less effort! ( not that I would know of course )

I personally know a couple of late 30?s females who go for the fun and delights of the island, and like the ladys on tv last night say that they have found ?love? out there ? but do these women really, honestly, believe they have found Mr Right? And if so ? why do they leave a tip?

Who else saw it?

these ladies are VERY over the hill and not very attractive. no wonder they need to seek dominican men.

seriously, isn't this just the reverse of why we men seek out these exotic countries ?

interesting documentary.....

Well - kinda - but not and i guess the point of the show is that if it is the reverse of why men go to exotic countrys, let be honest, its not so widely spoken about.

I think guys in 99% of cases know that a transaction for cash is taking place. Sure - some guys get duped in some more - but in the first meeting - tourists know that a cash transaction is involved.

The point I am trying to make ? although not at all eloquently ? is that these women don?t view it like that. Although ? they say they don?t view it like that??..but then leave a "tip?"

I guess the game is played differntly - these women seem as if they need to be "loved" or at least give the imprssion that they think the guys love them.

Overall - i thought is was a sad show for all concerned.

i have seen foreign women in action in sosua. they're just as aggressive as most men. i remember one time two ladies at my hotel. we would all go out together and then we would split up to get our "sex" on. in the morning over coffee we would laugh and talk about last night. we did this for four nights in a row. each night, different partner. one night they got a chica for me and i got a dominican guy for them that i knew.

it was fun !!!

The issue really is the con - the illusion - the outright lying . Men understand that they come for sex and will pay for it. Yes a few get conned.

Women come and experience "romance" or so they think. It is the lie that makes it different.

Man Hunters | Watch Online | Free Catch-Up on Channel 4 Shows

You need to be in the UK to watch the program, though

Proxy servers, here I come....

Somehow related; ?Heading South? (Ver le sud) is an interesting film about 3 white women in their 40?s and 50?s looking for ?sexual adventures? in Haiti back in the 70s.
It uses a very interesting technique in terms of not only relating the ?adventures? of these 3 ladies, but also ?interviewing? them in a documentary type setting on how they feel about their trips to the island. I bought the DVD a couple of months ago, might watch it again this weekend. ;)

Well, I just search the Internet. It has to be anonymous proxy for the location, otherwise it will leak your IP address. In the very limited time I had yesterday I didn't find any working UK-based proxy server.

When I come across one, I will watch the video.

For USA, I use AOL Broadband, it gives you a US IP address.

A few pieces of trivia:

Vers le Sud directed by Laurent Cantet and filmed around Las Terrenas, Samana Peninsula.
From the same director "Entre les murs" (The Class), the film won the Golden Palm at the Cannes Festival this year(2008).

I saw a bit of Ch4 report and I wish ladies wouldn't try so hard to twist the whole issue and come up with all sorts of explanations for these things.... (just like guys they have every right to get what they want/need). Perhaps if age difference wasn't such a taboo here in UK, men/women didn't have to go half way across the world !

Let's just say when we get older we ALL (men/women) need sex AND love. And people have various ways of getting these in their own ways, and good for them, it's nobody's business - who are we/they to critisize... ! (probably mostly those envious type who fail to get it one way or another).

Us poor North Americans..

I'm not very technologically inclined so after spending a long time on Google trying to find a site that would let me watch the program I've given up. Has anybody in North America found a site that will allow us to watch this program? Thanks!

Yes a very interesting film. It has been playing regularly on the Movie Network in Toronto for over a year. Didnt know it was filmed in the DR?
I have friends from all over the Caribbean and have travelled to many islands.
It happens in ALL the developing islands (Jamaica, Cuba, Dominica, Trinidad, etc., etc. etc.).

I just watched the preview for this. Pretty damn funny when I know the guy that is talking...and before anyone thinks "another Canadian girl with a Skany" he is a friend and just that...nothing else. I had no clue he was on here.

So now I need to see the whole thing. Has anyone found a way to see the whole show yet outside of the UK?

Cheers
Erin
