Maison Gautreaux Hotel - My Experiences

I stayed at Maison Gautreaux in February this year. I had booked this hotel because of the good online reviews and the price of only $47 per night. I arrived at about 3:00 pm, and was taken to a room on the second floor with a balcony. My initial reaction was "Great! I have a room overlooking the street with a balcony". But it was all downhill from there. The room was a borderline dump. The sliding glass door to the balcony was broken and could not be closed completely or locked. There was a door to the balcony which could be locked. The safe did not work. I complained to the front desk about the safe and was told to wait in the room, someone would be right up to sort it out. After waiting for 20 minutes, I retured to the front desk and was informed that the safe, in fact, did not work. The curtain over the sliding door looked like a bed sheet that had been nailed over the door. The bathroom had no towel racks. I was offered another room, but it had a very small window with very little natural light and the safe also did not work. I checked out the next morning and moved to the Hotel Discovery where all was great for $55 a nioght. I haved never understood how this dumpy hotel could garner all these great online reviews.

thank you for that!!!!
what happend is that for me a critic is something that makes us better
i cannot be in my place the 24 hours and the employees sometimes doesnt said what is happening
my good friend dakra has told me before to join DR1 and now i see that he was rigth if you see the other webpages when i receive a complaint i invite that person to visit us to try to show them that a bad service is not our objective
ill like to say something to the DR1 forum people, in my hotel we dont receive guests we receive friends thats why you can see that dakra write so much about our place. i can tell you that we have friends that has more than 13 years coming to my place, they have been in my wedding, in my relatives birthdays and in mine also. when you have a relation like that is difficult to go to another place
we try to have a relation with them that we call them by the phone some times and things like that

This is an open apology to DAKRA.
I am truly sorry for my drunken outburst, by no means did I intend to attack your character. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Its seems you are treated excellent there, and I believe you should continue to post any and all your raves of this establishment. I apologize.

And to jggm1971:
You have a fine establishment regardless of what I think, and I will suggest it to any tourist that I feel may benefit from the experience of staying there.
Im glad to see that you accept responsilblity for its past inconveinces, which brings me to recommend *** Maison Gautreaux *** along with others.
Its good in this day and age to see an owner corresponde with patrons on a personel level and offer some reconcilliation.

Good luck with your rennovations, I hope your business prospers.

Wrap Up!

Greetings Everyone:

I have just returned home about 2 hours ago from my most recent trip to Santo Domingo. The trip was loaded with airline delays that just drained me.

As for my satisfaction while in the DR, it was awesome! - As Juan says, I go to his hotel, because he is my friend and he and his staff treat me like family. In fact, I see that he goes the extra mile to ensure that all guests at his hotel are welcomed and invited to submit comments and suggestions.

For my trip, YES, I did stay at the Maision Gautreaux again. This place is just so much fun and enjoyment for me. So you will all know, I don't get paid, I receive no special favors or anything for my comments about the hotel. I work a pretty stressful job and I like so many need a break from time to time. I choose to go to the DR and rest and relax. I have many friends there who visit me and I visit them.

A had a great time during this last trip and I thank Juan and his wonderful Wife and the entire hotel staff for their great hospitality. Great Job!

So, to wrap-up: I strongly suggest that the members of DR1, consider having a Santo Domingo meet and greet during some evening at the Maision Gautreaux Hotel Bar/Restaurant and we all can see for ourselves what the comments are all about.

Anyone who is up for that is invited to send me a PM and I will try to set up a Meet & Greet party at the hotel. I am sure that Juan would be glad to show off his property to the DR1 members.

Thanks all folks.....

David

Hi Juan,

I am currently staying at your hotel now w/my fiance Jose and my dog, Kaiser (the big German Shepherd you always see). I would like to say that I really like the hotel and the staff here. They are super friendly. We have just recently moved to the DR and are trying to get settled into the city. We are staying here until our apartment is ready, hopefully next week. We have stayed here for over a month now. The hotel has welcomed my dog (Thank God!!) and everyone has been super helpful and friendly. I've been asking the staff about the regular things in the city, where to buy household goods, where to eat, where to get my nails done etc. Well, yesterday, the waitress in the morning, Yaneera, took me to get my nails done after work!! She showed me how to get there and stayed w/me while I got my nails done!! The 2 cleaning ladies are just the sweetest things and Emilio, the security guy in the daytime is the best. He speaks english very well and keeps me company during the day while I'm working outside on my computer. The other staff members have been super nice as well.

If any of you are looking for a 5 star hotel, I would say try the Hilton. However, if any of you are looking for a nice, clean, cozy and safe hotel w/a super friendly staff, w/very reasonable prices, then this is the place to stay.

Now where's my 10% discount?? ;)

Thanks again for such an enjoyable stay!!

Jessica, Jose and Kaiser

Maison's area ??

Maison Gautreaux Hotel is "OK" and nothing more!

Yes, its priced for the budget'd traveller but so is Hotel Residence and many others. Its not ideal for a single women, nor family to walk around safe outside at night, but a single man with a guest ( sure)! No scenaric veiws, and mediocore street parking. I recently visited a freind there.

The reason Im responding is because you have an overwhelming amount of posts soley dedicated to this specific hotel.

People should be aware of the beautiful decor at CoCo boutique, Atarzan, or the historical value of Palacio and even the location value of Mercure. All of these are much better for a few dollars more.
Backpackers stay in hostel, missionaries stay with host, so who are targeting with all this free promotioin.
( DAKRA ) anyone who visits the DR 7 times a year over the last 2 years should be in they're own apartment or apart-hotel by now, paying much less then hotel rates. Unless your getting paid or your receiving special perx why would you promote this hotel with such a passion. Its surrended by casinoes and hookers in every direction lets be honest.
So to any travellers on a strict budget just remeber you will need a taxi everytime you walk outside this hotel, to go anywhere of importance!

I've been there and many others hotels, small bed and breakfast, to the exspensive and overrated, and I still say Maison Gautreaux is only good just for its daily rate and thats it nothing more!

\( Im drinking "BRUGAL" in LOS MINA right now so by no means Im I trying to be spiteful or disrespecting but i believe that first time tourist should have variety in their chooses).

Hookers in every direction WOW! Do they have legal aids test papers like in Amsterdam or are they street whores perhaps even on drugs. Please they might be tourists from Miami how do you know. Take some pictures and post them real late at night. Good Times
