us rednecks from plant city claim Lakeland, Tampa for the city folk. :bunny::bunny::bunny:

Not from there "Lived there" as far as the Cuban, there was a place called the Gridiron in Plant City that had an Awesome Cuban.
We took mi esposa to the Strawberry festival on her first trip to the US. She loved it!

I love that part of FL...and the US. Plant City has a really neat city center.

Nice place to be from!

Best Cuban or any other Cuban food was @ Pipos, South Tampa on McDill and the new one north on Dale Mabry in Carrollwood . Danny Hernandez has it now. His mom and dad moved to Punta Cana a few years ago. That was as close to Cuba as they could get for retirement.

Just returned from Walmart. Spectracide Wasp and Hornet 20oz can shoots 27' spray, $1.97.

Hmmm.....I'm thinking someone could make a few bucks buying everything on the shelves and selling them in DR :cheeky:

Seriously though, I'll be picking up a few cans to bring down, thanks for the info - every time we get there we find several wasp nests surrounding the carport of our house. This will make getting rid of them a lot easier - and safer!

Unless I?m mistaken, poison is illegal to transport in your checked luggage.
Besides the fact that they are pressurized cans.

I was bringing in a special dog dish once that was 2 pieces, top and bottom.

The bottom piece would be used to put in a liquid such as dish washing lotion
to prevent the ants from getting to the dog?s food.

I mentioned it to the baggage inspector and he thought it contained poison to kill the ants and said it was illegal. I explained it to him and he said okay.

Good point, I'll just put several into one of the plastic tanks that we're shipping down soon, they go via boat.

Ants here get no chance to eat some dog food, the dogs are quicker :cheeky:

But what wasps are concerned, we have some black ones who are building little cocoons out of sand against the wall of our patio...are they dangerous?

Those are called mud wasps or dirt daubers, depending on where you're from. We called them dirt daubers, they are all over the southern US. Normally they aren't very aggressive, but they can sting. They are predators and eat spiders, especially black and brown widows.

These are the ones that build the honeycomb paper nests and CAN be very aggressive. This guy was kind enough to pose....right before the insecticide blast:

Neither can be confused for honeybees.

Don't know yet. I prefer to practice on a less vile reptile first, or maybe an armadillo. We have another one ripping its way through the front yard.

Taking no chances with the wasp spray, the armadillo met his demise with the 20 gauge @ 10:30 CDT. I'll have to clean it up in the morning.

I like your Walmart better - I made a special trip out there today and bought only 2 cans because they were almost $6 each. The Raid brand was even more expensive. Was it on clearance by you????

Sounds like it may have been a typo, Amazon shows a price of $3.99 each.

Also found this information:

The Spectracide had 2 different versions, one called "Destroyer" Wasp and Hornet Killer which was $3.97 and another just labels Spectracide Wasp & Hornet Killer which was $2.57, they both have a range of 27 ft and both contain the same ingredients, the only difference besides the price and the looks is the Destroyer has a different spray nozzle and 20oz of poison while the other has 15oz.

Your post made me go find my receipt. On the shelf it said $5.98, but I actually paid $3.58 plus tax. It's not the one pictured, it has a big black nozzle on top. $6.58 on Amazon: Amazon.com: 18OZ Wasp/Hornet Spray: Kitchen & Dining

Outstanding price!

If they ever get it here, it would probably be about $300 pesos. (+/- $8 U.S.)

I have been using a 7 foot 3/4 inch schedule 40 PVC pipe with an end-cap to squish them.
They attack the end cap and leave me alone. ;) :bandit:

If anyone is coming to Santiago and has an empty can,
maybe they can bring the can nozzle with them,
would like to try the nozzle on a regular can of bug spray.

Back when this thread was active, someone sent me an e-mail and asked me to bring down some cans of wasp spray on my next trip. I think we have 5 cans. I've had a glitch in my e-mail account and lost all my old messages - so whoever you are, drop me another e-mail or PM because we're only here for another month or so.

update requested

hello folks...I have read through the many posts and yet to find an establishment in the DR that sells the 25' wasp spray. Since this is an older thread perhaps someone may have some new information. Thanks.
