Yappie, can I have some of that seaweed you are smoking? I desperately need it. I just paid my luz bill, 350$, for 2 comps, a fridge, a tv, some fans, some lightbulbs, and yes, a pool. I know the bill/meter ain't right, but what are you going to do about it?

I just paid my internet bill of 2,300 rds or translated around 60$. Hey, I am happy with the internet service, but for the same price in Belgium I would have had a speed about 15 times faster.

Can you show me some pics of the hotels in that price-range?

Airfare to Europe: that price is one way!

Although I respect everybody's lifestyle, including yours, stop telling fairytales to people thinking of moving here. Maybe you should hook up with Dark Scorpion. The two of you could probably live luxury lives for as little as 20,000rds per year (500$)

BelgianK

My latest elec bill was high because my highly efficient 02 fan had given up after 3 years. It waas 1,339 pesos.

Many hotels in this price range.

this one has a web cam.

look at their price list.

Hotel Piedra Marron in Las Terrenas auf der Habinsel Samana

Airfares are often quoted one way - airfare to Florida from $100.

Pay 1,700 for internet - plenty fast enough for TV, Netflix etc.

Food is expensive from 150 pesos a day per person I find.

But bargaining can reduce this.

Some gringos build their own houses in the DR for a budget of 5-10 thousand dollars plus land - then no rent to pay and with solar no elec bills. Concrete blocks are from 20 pesos each.

If elec bills get you down suggest solar - cheapest 230 watt kit with batteries about $700. If petrol prices get you down an electric cycle is from $700. One panel at 300$ can run a small pool pump during sunlight hours.

Air fare to Europe is most times cheaper than New York to Europe, a shorter distance.

No, she has these little comida consuming monsters who have infested the house. They're called "children," and they tend to be small, but come with big appetites.

Well I do not smoke, do not drink (drink only on party days), I prefer fish and shellfish instead of beef meat, I love fruits (especially tropical) and I like a lot of vegetables, I can get cheap flights through Spanish companies (like orbest, air europa or Pullmantur), my brother works with photovoltaic panels,....., hmmm maybe I can get a very cheap life on the island
JT
PS. Sorry Mike but still I will not give up sex "me gusta muchisimo":p

no air europa brings me and my Gals straight from PC to Frankfurt, and I don't wanna spend a nigh in Madrid or Paris or such, so those connections are in my personal cas worthless, happy when they fit your needs/way of flight etc.
I too love fruits and veggies, but i don't count them on the daily Bill/Shedule, as we have them ourselves and with the neighbours of all kinds and variations, thaty stuff costs here on the Isle Nothing once you settled in, so no concerns on that point.
If you have top fresh Beef and Pork and Pavitos etc, I as fact have daily Fresh Top Quality Seafood/Fishies, I am happy to trade for a very fair excahnge rate, as I am fishing daily and get da stuff which my Family and the 500 attached ones enjoy, but MYSELF I love my MEAT!, so we ca make a deal.
No, you can not get a VERY CHEAP Life on the Isle, such simply depends on to what you compare it to to be called cheap or expensive etc.
Agreed,
I have no intention to give up Sex, as that is what is the first of our Humn Beeings Basic Instincts, even that I am not a younggun anymore since a while, once we give up that pleasure we stop to be worth to be feed on this planet.
heck, even da Fishies I kill day by day do not stop to F.. and Breed til the moment I set da Hook.

Yes, unfortunately many parents are unknowing, passive criminals filling their soon to be obese children with supermarket trash.

Children in the UK and elsewhere were healthier in the 50,s before supermarkets, frozen foods, and the zombies that run McDonalds and other food empires.

So much for DRobs stupid post ....... Many children in the DR still dry beans by the roadside, still eat nutritious local food and in some sports even out-perform athletes of the mighty US! Despite their fewer number!

It is so bad for the developing Word that there is no naked chef for them: only criminal exploitation by food monopolists and others.

Now that Shalena and her family have arrived, there will be yet another person on DR1 actually posting the REAL costs in the DR for raising a family!!!
Welcome Shalena et. al.!!!!
I just got back on Sat. Spent about 20 K to get the larder stocked after my absence.
Thank GOD for the few citizens of the USA that still pay taxes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC

Raising Family????
why to do that???
here you get a family ready to eat and rumble with you within an eyeblink of your arrival, you do not need the usual crap of having unprotected Sex with a dozen of new Gals and then hit on 90% of the shots and then raise them all up or send them to preschool/primary school/high school/college etc,
NOAP,
arrive on the Isle and without any significant hassles you will have a BIG FAMILY, all ages already done and ready to rumble when you go shopping for da MEATS and others.
just take care when the ''wishes'' for da new --needed-- Cellphones come up, here it can get overly expensive even for a German or American ""Rich Uncle"" quiet quick, lol.

someone coming over to cook Weed on a Solar powered Rice Cooker,
stealing chickens from the public street,
taking Cable from the neighbour's line for free,
growing da veggies on his/her own or starve to dead,
heck,
that kinda people in such miserable situations we have in the US and Germany by the MILLIONS,
but I hope those are not the ones coming over here to settle down on Paradise Island and ""assist the Local Community with their SS Bucks""!!!

if thats da case I need to consider to open some sidebiz to maintain a average euopean used to lifestyle.
and by my age I have no intention to do so.

You...darn 47 percent-person....

I'm sure Frank will be along shortly with a poster about how senior citizens are parasites on society....

Rob,
usually we are on a very similar opinion,
but here, Buddy, you are completely Off-Line.
he is NOT a 47% percent of the ones back home(home in the US) who cry out loud,
He is one of the FEW Smart EX-47% persons who took the action into their own hands and prepared their own soil for Life without depending on what the 53% of new ones elected.

Your "Tin Foil Hat" has a short Circuit!
Yet Again!!
We need anothe "Post Like "Yappi" day!
'Dog $hit" can be collected free by the roadside.
It still contains many nutrients, and since it is pre digested it is great for those of us on a "Soft Diet"!
It also makes a nice tea when mixed with "Cat ****", although it took me quite some time to train my cat to "Pi$$" on demand, and then to hit my tea pot!
I am experimenting with "Cow $hit" as it is more plentiful, and contains more digested fiber.

"Jamie Oliver" is an entertainer, NOT a nutritionalist.
Just because he cooks over a wood fire doesn't mean "$HIT"!
Oh, I didn't mean to make you hungry!

you never fed a family,
or you would know that with 18K Pesos for 3 months some Kittens would have starved to dead in such family, even if eating rice and beans and smoking seaweed only.
and as mentioned before well often, some have different expectations of a decent Life than you may have.

that your own ancestors of the ole british queen brought yourself up with such crap does not mean that the rest of the world is looking on such.
even during my well over 6 yers in the USA(which you pointed out by mentioning Mc D's) I did never start to like them, nor Pizza Hut nor ....., you check da stuff and then you decide wht you like by your taste and what not.
I found alwys at all time very well suitable food in the US without frequenting a Drive in quicky fat burger plce of any brand, they have something different to that available also.

and hey,
without trying to offend others from your country here on the bord,
But as fact the UK is sure not ranking within the top 100 of european countries in case of their Cuisine,
much less if you wanna count the whole globe together

and all the details aside,
just to cut it short,
when I wanna get my Steak on da Plate, who gives a s.hit??
in the UK I would need to fear that the pork is pested, or the cow is crazy, or the birds have da Flue.
here on the Isle I can chase all of them down, killem, cook 'em, frie 'em,
and no fear of anything.

if da guy wanna change the food quality behavior of the UK Isle,
heck of a job I say,
he needs to blow/sink da Isle and start something completely new

150-200 a day per person buys a good European diet in the DR.

Main meals can cost between 50 and 120 pesos per person to prepare with local ingredients.

French wines are extra.

I'd say about 300 per day per person to be completely fair.. If you are spending over this you are buying boxed, processed, generally bad quality food. If you are anywhere near Santiago go to Bravo on Tuesdays with the 40% off all fruits and vegetables.I budget 1000 pesos per day for my wife, 3 year old, and I.
