    For Rum People

Dark is all we drink. Keep a bottle of Brugal Doble Reserva around. In a long ago thread I remember WW was also a fan. A la roca.

Indotel orders telecoms to allow roaming among different telcom providers without charges

Exactly my thought. I'll start a telecom company tomorrow and install one tower. Charge half the going rate. Spend my days trying to keep up adding new customers. In four years I'll get a call out on my yacht and the message will be "that number is no longer in service".

    Cargo Shipping

We shipped from our home in Kansas City with a local Dominican fellow known by all in that area so we had an extra middleman and a few extra miles to get it here. Were required to use 18X18X28 inch U-Haul boxes. Well taped. Really well taped. One charge. Boxes sailed thru Customs here...

Carnival in Santo Domingo on Sunday, 2 March 2025

Rats. We were headed into the Gasque area Sunday afternoon and usually come in from the west along the Malecon. I recognize the Obelisco Hembra and the Parque Eugenio Maria, but I'm unfamiliar with the Obelisco Macho. Is it west of the Obelisco Hembra or east towards the Zona Colonial. Need a...

    Residency renewal

So residency renewal is coming up soon and I see that one of the requirements is Certificado de no Antecedentes Penales. Or I assume the dreaded FBI record check correct? I needed one for my initial residency request. They're looking for a new one correct? Anyone done this lately and could...

    concrete sealer

I'm sold on a Pinturas Popular product called Dry Blockaid. Comes in a 40lb bucket. It's a powder and you can mix it thick for a roof with a slope or thinner for flat areas, Application with trowel, paint brush or roller. Available at most hardware stores or at Popular stores. I agree with...

    Websites with rainfall totals

We use that simple little thing called a rain gauge. Last 6 days we're at 3.9 inches plus what's falling out there right now. We're like Bob in Jarabacoa, in Sajoma there aren't many flat spots to accumulate rain and the soil drains easily.

    Chlorine

Coraasan provides the water here in Sajoma. Pumped out of a local river when the water is clear enough. The rains are messing with that. I don't think Coraasan treats the water with chlorine. Occasionally I will add some based on the amount I see we've gotten in the cistern and a chart I...

Protests continue over charging seniors more to renew license permit

Insurance rates in the US don't go up at age 65. At age 70 yes at most companies. It's all about the actuarial tables.

    Carry Passport or Passport Copy

I didn't want to carry mine even to Banreservas. It took them months after my request to change my info over to my cedula to now allow that as my ID. The same day that I walked into Cooperativa San Jose here in town it was done in 10 minutes.

The perfect car for the Dominican Republic? What would it be for you?

"49 Willy's Overland Jeep Station Wagon. Yeah kinda long name. Took us awhile to restore. Stayed original on the rebuild. Rebuilt the little flat head 4-banger under the hood.

Public Health Minister Victor Attallah encourages Dominicans to drink coffee without sugar

And my experience in the sierra campo of old, was each home had their cast aluminum pot hanging on the wall of their detached kitchen, that was ONLY used for roasting coffee. That was because during the roasting process yet more sugar (not much, but a little) was added. That pot became quite...

Abnb hosting been a struggle recently

I've both rented and hosted. We live here in Sajoma in a house we initially rented thru Airbnb. We realized upon arrival it was for sale, we negotiated a price, came back and signed the papers. The same trip we stayed in Cabarete for several nights in a beachside condo thru Airbnb. No issues...
