There are not to many attractive Places to hide if you have an International Arrest Warrant.
Think about North Korea or Venezuela etc. Regardless the Sentence he might get, he will be out in three years or even less.
Not worth it to run away.
I would run like hell if I thought I would have to spend a single night in a Dominican jail!

Understandable, but where would you go? I'm thinking of the ex president of Honda(?) that escaped from Japan in a large double bottom box,I think he went to Switzerland?

I think it was Nissan and I believe he went to somewhere in the MIddle-East. Personally, I would prefer to do that than spend a night in a Dominican jail.

I agree with Manuel 101. He’s not your average Dominican. I highly doubt he will spend a long time, if any, in a DR jail and certainly not your typical DR prison hellhole. His connections and wealth will benefit him as they have benefitted many other rich Dominicans in legal predicaments. His lawyers will try to spread the liability among the contractors hired to work on the roof and the government for lack of inspection standards. They could prolong the case for years which is normal operating procedure for DR courts. The fact that he returned and stayed is an indicator of his level of confidence in his fate. Makes me almost believe the fix is in.

We get to wait and see. I doubt he will not regret his decisions and I hope he is held accountable. IMO he is neglegent. Either he knowingly chose not to properly maintain his property or was neglegent in accepting his contractors advice without verification that it was correct or some similar scenario. Regardless he is at fault and I hope he does not get to avoid most of the blame and responsibility. He deserves to be made an example and punished harshly both criminally and in civil proceedings

Not sure if jail is appropriate for him. On one hand, it theoretically can act as a deterrent for other negligent business owners. But on the other hand jail should be for violent people who will probably reoffend. He doesn't fit the latter scenario.

I agree. Hit him in his pocketbook instead. Hard.
They already have a WhatsApp exchange between him and one of his employees who warned him the roof was disintegrating the same night it collapsed and saying the show should be cancelled, and he decided against it.

Pure greed. That has come back to haunt him now.

I think it will be a significant amount of money and some form of detention.

Remember, in the past, some really important officials have spent considerable time in Najayo.

He will be hit hard, financially, professionally and personally. He won't be the only one in the end who is hit hard. I wonder if the employee shared any of this information (JD post) with anyone else, like the performers.

BTW, this is a picture of seach efforts you've probably never seen:
View attachment 10868

Notice the beams with little or no rebar, and the pieces of the roof on top of the beams, again with virtually no rebar either.

There should be a spiderweb of rebar all over the place, but there is hardly any at all.

No wonder they wanted the debris to disappear.
Notice the huge A/C units right in the middle of the collapse. There were also three 500 gallon tinacas close to the A/C units. That would be 4000lbs each if full. who approved that? When a floor or roof is designed, the engineer specifies a max loading per square foot.

Blue Collar Town in New Jersey

This is still coming up in Facebook feeds ... People in the US are talking about it , people who never even heard of this Club, much less the man who owns it .
Notice its now a "Dominican Republic Roof collapse " as to suggest a Country wide problem.

not good for Tourism ..

‘Complete disregard for building and safety laws’

"The owners of the doomed Jet Set nightclub in the Dominican Republic, where 236 people were buried alive earlier this year, ignored obvious warning signs and building safety laws, leading to the catastrophic collapse, a bombshell new government report reveals."

Dont think for a Moment People are not Cancelling their Travel Plans to the DR over this, because they are . On top of worrying about WW3 in the Middle East .
Bobby and Suzy from Ohio are now cancelling their Trip to Punta Cana .
Cuz If you dont care about your own People , and have such total disregard, why would you care about TOURIST Lives ? .

I still say find the weak link/ Engineer who signed off on this Roof , and punish that person the hardest

I doubt people are cancelling their trips to Punta Cana over this. Since this happened, it has been in the US news (I know I saw/read it several times). The average tourist does not look at things the way we (those who live in the DR) do. They think it happened in Santo Domingo not at a resort in Punta Cana, so all is good.
