Santiago DR
Has anyone here had any experience with this establishment. Been thinking about spending a full 7 days there and would really appreciate some feedback.

Have to get out of Santiago for a few days (need change of scenery) and I always go to Sosua.................
Looking for something a little different and their website looks very tempting.............
Maybe a little to good to be true.................So, anybody been there.........

Went there two yrs ago. Didn't stay the night, just an afternoon. Food was good, but the bugs ate me alive.

B,
If you go a bit further down the road to Cabrera there is La Catalina

Hotel La Catalina - Cabrera, North Coast Dominican Republic Hotel Resort

Los Gringos is off by itself somewhat.

Cabrera has bars, restaurants.... even a website

Cabrera Dominican Republic | Discover Cabrera | Visit Cabrera

Nearby beaches....

You might like it better unless you're looking to be alone on a beach

I know of a little studio style house ( house on the beach, well on a little cliff above the beach).
Living room/bedroom, kitchen , bath, pool... very private

YES! We go there all the time.

Los Gringos is one of the best kept secrets in the DR.

Fantastic food and a wonderful property! It's the kind of place to escape to and really get away Gilligan's Island style.

Patrick is the proprietor and makes for an excellent host...

A whole week seems a bit much as there isn't much to do in the area. A few nights of total downtime? That's the ticket...

I third what cobraboy said!

If you decide to go it's best if you have a car. Then you can go to the various towns/beaches and get the full experience. Laguan Gri Gri in Rio San Juan, Playa Caleton, Playa Grande and a visit to Cabrera and maybe dinner one night at Hotel La Catalina. Then you return to the low keyed tranquility of Los Gringos where you'll generally have the whole beach to yourself and can eat and enjoy the personal service.

Just a thought.

YOU were the one who first introduced us to Los Gringos! Thanks!

Los Gringos is a great place to go. Off the edge but finding its own edge. Patrick is certainly one of the better hosts on the North Coast and probably the best chef on the Coast. It would be a difficult place to stay a week unless you really want to be alone. Now there is tv and internet, we used to go when there was nothing. We enjoy a couple of nights there or an afternoon for a great lunch or an evening for an even better dinner. The beach is ok but usable. The quiet is wonderful and there is instant hot water and electricity, if you need it. La Catalina is a nice adjunct to the week and probably somewhere else in Cabrera to add a night or two. But you will enjoy Los Gringos, we have for the last 6 years or more.

If you go, be sure to have a meal at the restaurant owned and run by the German woman. Oh, man, the food is fabulous! Sit on the lounge on the beach. Order up a bottle of wine. When she brings it, order up some food. She will tell you how much time until she will have it finished. Go for a swim. By the time you are back, right by your lounge chairs on the beach is a feast fit for a king (or queen) at a price payable by a pauper.

Haven't been there for about three months, but I would bet my bottom dollar that she still has the bottle of wine with my name on it saved for me "until next time."

Have fun. It's a special place.

This is my ideal of what a perfect Island setting should be..... no vendors, not many tourists, Patrick is the perfect host & chef.
We can take our dogs, as it is back from the road, and they play on the beach, with the resident El Capitan, and Tricon.... and of course the one who doesn't "live" there but appears to be quite at home.
We have spent the weekend, and completely enjoyed ourselves. The beach, the ocean, the cold beer, and the quiet!!! The food has always been great and I always look forward to "Eggy Toast".....
If mosquito's bother you then take your spray..... one of us attracts them and the other doesn't so plan accordingly.
The price is certainly right too!!!!
Enjoy a very special place.

I want to give this place a go, so, what is the best way to get there if you don't drive here............
Metro to Sosua and then a taxi, or would they pick/up in Sosua...........
And, how far is Los Gringos from Sosua...........
I think the 3-day pkg would be good for a restful time........

Metro to Sosua, then cross the street and ask a carito publico to take you to La Yagua. You will first go to Gasper Hernandez for 50 pesos, then change to another one that goes to Rio San Juan, but to La Yagua is about another 30 pesos per person.

Or you can ask the driver how much he would charge you to go straight to La Yagua and he would probably take you to the front door of Los Gringos for a heck of a lot cheaper than a taxi......

We had lunch y'day here... Patrick told us he has bought the German restaurant.

It poured rain all day but we had Irish Coffee to take the chill out of the air.

Paella was wonderful, the parking lot flooded up to the door sills.
Patrick said he has never seen that in 8 years there.

Patrick has turned the German place into a kind of pizzeria/snackbar, with lower prices than Los Gringos. I think this was a good move, as he now has an alternative which appeals to children as well.

I think the pizzeria is only open from wednesday onwards.
