Hello Everyone,

I will be going to DR in a few weeks and was looking for some salsa spots.

I've been taking Salsa classes for a few years now in NYC, I know Cuban Salsa (rueda de casino) style and NY Style salsa.
If you know some places where they play mostly salsa, I'm open to hear your suggestions. I also really enjoy dancing where there's a live band. Any suggestions, recommendations will be great!

Thanks! :)

During 2010 I could not find any exclusive 'salsa spots' in SD DR. Some at a place called Parada 77, colonial sd,

very very few dominicans, living in DR, know how to dance salsa.

I tried with dozen of DR girls, only one knew enough,

at parada 77 did get to dance with a cuban girl, argentinian and another from NYC studying medicine in Santiago, those were good dancers,

I met the later two girl some time before, out of DR, we were glad to meet again,

I hope to be in DR soon, you and I may try dancing salsa. I dont like bachata, merengue is better.

There's an On2 Dance Studio in Santo Domingo(Check them out on FB), they have social events all the time and I'm pretty certain you'll have a great time.

I love Eddie Palmieri!

I started with Salsa International, where I learned rueda and on 2 (from a Groupon). Then the company merged with You Should Be Dancing, where we did a Rueda performance. I'm the girl in the red dress ;)

Now I'm going taking classes with Chris Rogicki for rueda classes and On 2 classes with Piel Canela.

Salsa dancing and Salsa lessons

In this blogpost about Dance classes in Santo Domingo you find also a link to good party locations, where sometimes is played Salsa music (but it doesn't mean necessarily you have good dancers).

Decent dancers are indeed far in between. But the Friday evening events of Salsa on 2 (address and weblink mentioned in the post) are definetely the best places to find good Salsa-dancers, they dance mainly Salsa on 2. One Friday a month there is a party for a bigger audience.

If you want to see some Son in a special setting go on Tuesday night to El segredo musicla, further detailed in this list.

if you really like Eddie, check this out. a pair of dancers take the stage, a little past midway of the song, and maybe you could learn some moves from them

Go to Ruinas de San Fransisco on Sundays, start at 7pm. It's amazing.
Rodolfo is a good adress.
Be aware, in the DR the men mostly start with the right forward on 1. I'm too old to change to this :-(
PS: if you like salsa, beach and bitches: go to Bodega in Las Terrenas (but the same style).

Parada 77.. it looks like a bar(from what I googled). I don't know if that's the same one. On FB there's a "bar parada77"
Thanks for the info anyway.

Santo Domingo IS a salsa spot. You won't have any trouble finding somewhere to show off. :) :)

Was last sunday (and before) hier (don't know the name): from Plaza Espana up Emiliano Tejera, then the next corner right, after 150 meters on the right side: everybody dancing salsa. Also Calle Hostos, 200 m after Hotel Mercury: El Sarten.

Parada 77 have a bar, thats how they make the money, no charge to get in, small dance/hangout place.

Victor manuelle, Puerto Rican salsero, usually goes to DR, I was able to enjoy at 'Jet Set Club', big place, in general still the best.

I dont like his style so much, but enjoy "Ella Lo Que Quiere Es Salsa", do you?

Rodolfo surely offers anything for dinero. Don't know how much because I visited his bachatalessons during a bachatafestival.
Also be prepared to pay (in one or the other way) for his infos for dancespots.
