Encouraging news - apart from one minor crisis this summer that required emergency hospitalisation, the girl's condition has remained stable and she is at home with her family while efforts continue to get funding for her treatment.

At least three avenues were being explored in parallel, including DR1 poster LaProfe who had a US hospital lined up and was well on the way towards securing donations towards the cost.

The father's colleagues in Santo Domingo were lobbying their organisation's international branches and the breakthrough came last week with the news that one of their European country offices would donate a substantial sum. It doesn't cover all the family's expenses but it is enough to start the ball rolling at last. Meanwhile the surgeon who operated on the girl is coordinating with specialists in the US for the girl to travel there for surgery.

I would like to thank everyone who contributed via DR1, whether with donations (which are most helpful because the large donation does not cover everything) or helpful advice, but especially to LaProfe who put so much time, effort and dedication into this.

I will update again as travel arrangements are firmed up, and of course when the surgery is finally performed.

Again, if anyone would like more specific info, please send me a PM.

They're in Florida, and the mother is accompanying her daughter - thanks for the offer but their accommodation has been taken care of.

    Default Message from Chirimoya

We have heard that the operation, which took place on Wednesday, was a success and that the little girl and her mother will be travelling home this Saturday. Chiri will post an update on her recovery in due course.

All of you somewhere, someplace tonight, make a small toast and send a positive thought to wonderful miracles and good people!
