The Chamber of Deputies approved a third resolution declaring the National State of Emergency in the Dominican Republic. The resolution enables the government to skip over normal procurement procedures and restrict the transit of people in the country, among other measures. The President had requested the extension on 24 April for a period of 25 days and this was approved by the Senate. Yet, the Chamber of Deputies reduced the term to 17 days.

The bill now returns to the Senate on Wednesday, 29 April. The PLD is mayority in the Senate and the bill is expected to be promptly approved in time so that the state of emergency that expires on 30 April can continue. The State of Emergency will start on 1 May and continue for 17 days.

The Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) had requested the extension be conditioned to ensure more transparency and accountability. The opposition party...

WHY ARE THEY WEARING GLOVES??????? As a frontline healthcare professional this infuriates me.

They think it helps them. Why does it bother you?
It BOTHERS me because it sends the WRONG message to the public. There are ACTUAL DOMINICAN MEDICAL PHYSICIANS telling the public to please stop using gloves. And then the Administrators of cities and towns are walking around with gloves on. We ALL know that the public wearing gloves actually spreads the virus more than if they didn’t wear gloves.
And I am in a place where we are STILL loading bodies into trucks everyday and my children in DR. The last thing the DR needs is to get like NYC.
But go ahead...wear your gloves.
I swear, I almost forgot why I stopped even posting on this site SMH

You are a healthcare worker, working on the battlefield, you have knowledge that most people don't*.
I thought that gloves protected me from having direct contact with the virus (I still avoid touching my faces) and I dispose of them as soon as I get home, right before washing my hands. Why does it spread the virus ?

*that is why you shouldn't stop posting !

Gloves like your hands pick up virus from things you touch. For gloves to be effective they need to be changed often. New pair going into a grocery store for example, take them off, throw them away and put on a new pair when you leave the grocery store. Change gloves again after you've stopped somewhere else and touched a bunch of things. Repeat all day long.

There aren't enough pairs of gloves for the world to use and change as often as would be necessary to make the effort effective. Medical people go through many many pairs per shift and the limited supply of quality gloves should be left for them to make use of. Masks on the other hand, worn properly (covering nose and mouth) and not fiddled with are a different story. You can wear the same N95 mask for quite awhile provided it doesn't get moist. Surgical masks will need to be changed more frequently.

I think SKing and others realize that gloves without a mask is an ineffective waste of a limited resource. Forget the gloves, wash your hands often and use sanitizer when you can't wash. Wear a mask instead - another limited resource but at least it can offer a benefit to the wearer and others nearby.

Someday maybe I hope and pray that I will be as smart as you. Thanks so much for your wisdom.

OK, makes sense. I am in NYC, most people don't get around much i.e gloves to go to Park or Grocery store. Plus, I got them from a 99c store, so they are not medical, lol. N95 masks are nowhere to be found as well.

Let us stop the drama queen features and back to the Emergency Declaration/extension of it. We have better fishes to fry.

Moving on, with my gloves on.

Being somewhat of a rebel, sometimes I question the logic in what the authorities tell me. In my part of the world I can't go fishing alone but can go to the Walmart. Still trying to wrap my head around that one. As far as the gloves and mask thing goes, something keeps telling me that wearing gloves and a mask is better than no gloves and no mask.

when this whole covid19 thing started the "experts" were adamant that masks were not necessary and were in fact dangerous as they made people touch their face more. Now you can get arrested for not wearing one in a store. I am waiting for the CDC to tell woman to wear burkas and men to wear condoms.

They'll get it wrong. They will tell the women to wear condoms.
