August 29, 2005. Katrina. 9 days makes 9 years. No desire to ever relive another one.

Regardless of tropical cyclone formation, gusty winds and heavy
rainfall are possible across portions of the Lesser Antilles, Puerto
Rico, and the Virgin Islands tonight and Friday, and over Hispaniola
late Friday and Saturday.

Looks like heavy rain for Friday night, Saturday. The forecasters seem to agree it will move to the north, so probably we will get heavy showers and that's it.
Check out the DR1 Hurricane page for links of weather forecasters on the storm.
DR1 - Hurricanes

Accuweather seems to be on top of the weather forecasts. Remember that what happens in the Caribbean is important to the US forecasters, because islands with mountains as ours can make or break a storm that is making its way north.

NWS NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER MIAMI FL
200 AM EDT FRI AUG 22 2014

For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:

Shower activity associated with the small low pressure area
moving over the Leeward Islands remains limited and disorganized.
Interaction of the low with Puerto Rico and Hispaniola will
likely inhibit significant development through tonight. However,
environmental conditions are expected to be more conducive for
development when the disturbance moves near or over the southeastern
Bahamas on Saturday, and a tropical depression is likely to form
over the weekend or by early next week. Regardless of tropical
cyclone formation, gusty winds and heavy rainfall are expected
across portions of the Leeward Islands, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin
Islands today, and over Hispaniola and the southeastern Bahamas
tonight and Saturday. Interests in those islands should monitor the
progress of this disturbance. An Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunter
aircraft is scheduled to investigate this system this afternoon.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...high...60 percent.
* Formation chance through 5 days...high...80 percent.

This looks like being a rain event for the DR - probably 2-4 inches
Likely in PC in the next 4-5 hours and then north Coast in about 6 to 10,

North Coast Between Cabarete and Sosua.

Had about 1" of rain so far with squally on shore winds ( northerly) . Looks as if there is more to come.

My gardener is laying some sod right now, so I'm hoping for two weeks of RAIN!!!!!!
CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC

For us Brits, "My gardener is laying some sod" has a completely different meaning. Or maybe your gardener really is having homosexual sex!

Birds Walk.

Saman? Hills
We are in clouds, it's 'cold', visibility at times down to 50 m, even the birds walk.
Rain on and off, wind from the NNW, reaching gale force at times, embedded thunderstorms coming from the E.

Atlantic Tropical Weather Outlook

"Currently, the COC (center of circulation) of the low is 100+ miles WNW of Puerto Rico although another COC appears to be trying to form south of Puerto Rico at the same time. Consolidation of these two would be definitely hindered by the mountainous terrain of Puerto Rico and the island of Hispaniola which comprises Haiti and the Dominican Republic. (By the way I hate when Jim Cantore says the Dominican. Jim, the country has a name; Dominican Republic)." :cheeky:

It's been raining very hard in Punta Cana for the last couple of hours but not much in the way of wind gusts. We've got some water coming in to the apartment from the roof terrace so it may well be a long night. :(

Broken clouds over Cabarete at this time and not much rain since yesterday. We could certainly use more rain.

After some earsplitting thunderbolts the wind picked up, but the worst of the heavy rain was over by midnight. Overcast and drizzly this morning, although the sun came out for a few minutes.
