Lord. Really?
It has such low mileage because it wasn’t driven.
It wasn’t driven because it wasn’t needed.
Beginning in the early ‘70s, the Ford is essentially a re-badged Mazda, rather than the other way around—but that begs the question—are you interested in the truck or are we just gassin’?
The 2014 Mazda BT-50 is essentially a rebadged Ford Ranger, but with some distinct Mazda flavor. From 2011 to 2020, the second-generation BT-50 was developed in partnership with Ford, sharing the same platform, chassis, and mechanical underpinnings as the Ford Ranger (T6 model). Ford Australia led the design, and both trucks rolled out of the same production lines, primarily in Thailand. They share engines—like the 3.2-liter inline-five turbo-diesel—and drivetrains, making them siblings under the skin.
Mazda didn’t just slap a badge on it, though. The BT-50 got its own styling, with a front fascia inspired by Mazda’s passenger cars (think Mazda 6 vibes) and a unique interior layout. The headlights, grille, and body lines set it apart visually, aiming for a more lifestyle-oriented look compared to the Ranger’s rugged workhorse appeal. Suspension tuning and steering were also tweaked to give it a slightly different feel—Mazda aimed for a sportier edge, though opinions vary on how noticeable that is.
So, while it’s built on the Ranger’s bones, Mazda put enough of its own spin on the 2014 BT-50 to make it more than a pure rebadge. The partnership ended after 2020, when Mazda switched to an Isuzu D-Max base, but for 2014,
it’s a Ford at heart with a Mazda twist.
Just sayin'
