Yesterday I went to BMcargo to mail a one page letter to the states.
I have to do this once a year. They said they no longer ship to that
area. Last year they did but wanted 2,200 to send it. So I used
the pop general post office. The letter never made it to the states.

So after BMcargo I went to the UPS office 3,300 pesos. Thats rediculas.
He said thats next day air. I said I don't need next day. Is there
a cheaper way. He said no, we only do next day air. ARRGGHHHHH!!!!!

Any one know of a cheaper way that works?

EPS does not send letters anymore. Only by Fedex or UPS at crazy prices. They are great to receive packages under $200, but that is it. Nothing else.

Thank you for that information that EPS stopped sending letters. Understood on their ability to receive packages for under $200, but I have not used them for that for years now since I use a couple of other couriers that deliver to my door. Does EPS at least deliver now or do you still have to go to their office? Are they cheaper than CPS or Encargopaq for items under $200?

Back to the OP, then the only cheap way, unless some other courier will handle regular outgoing mail now that EPS does not, is to use INPOSDOM and I see you took that option and it did not work. Oh well, then you have to pay for UPS/FEDEX or other expensive courier unless we find another way. I will certainly be looking into this in the near future.

I don't believe EPS delivers. I always pick up at the office, never heard of delivery. As for price comparison I can't help you as I only use EPS. I am very happy with the service on packages they have.

I just received this reply from CPS, they have no cheap way:
Effectively for sending packages or letter from the DR to another country we use FEDEX and DHL service. We do no offer the USPS service...

Perhaps CPS does not add on additional costs for FEDEX or DHL?

What does EPS charge per pound all in for items under $200 US?

I believe it is 200rd, but could not say for sure. I have paid 100 rd for under a lb. and really don't pay much attention to exact weight. You can check with them.

OMG, scan it and email it, it's 2019.
If it is an "Official" correspondence, most courts recognize Docusign.

You can negotiate lower.

We pay RD$140 a pound @ EPS.

Many don't, including the DR gubmint.

Mailing out of the DR is a problem with no viable solutions.

If a document is important, I suck it up and pay the FedEx rate, about US$65.

If an item is not critical, I use USPS Priority Mail, get free envelopes and boxes, and mail INPOSDOM. I have shipped coffee samples and T-shirts that way and have only had one item go missing in 7 years...unfortunately to the Social Security Administration which caused a temporary problem. That now goes FedEx.

That said, it takes over two weeks to get to the addressee with INPOSDOM.

Plan ahead and ask here on DR1 for someone leaving the DR via POP. With enough forethought, it doesn't matter where the traveler is going - US, Canada, Europe. Most would be willing to purchase a stamp and hand it to their local post office clerk for you. You probably just have to meet them for a complimentary beer and hand them your envelope. Fork over some cash to your new friend and expedited/tracking delivery service is probably an option if you need it.

Most reliable and cheapest way I have found to get letter mail items into the N.A. postal system.
