hello everyone! I need your expert help! I will be vacationing for 9 days in Santo Domingo the 2nd week of July. But I am on a budget!! How much $$ do you think would be a good amount to take to have a good time without going broke?! :ermm:
This is not my first time visiting DR, however, the previous time I was at an all inclusive, so I really didnt worry much about spending money...
Can anyone guide me?
I appreciate your help!:cheeky:

are you talking about spending money alone or are you including accomodations in the estimate?

soo jealous...wish i was heading to SD for 9 days ;)

i was there for a month in february volunteering and definitely had a budget that i had to stick to!

i didnt go out a lot but i did like to have a drink or 2 (;) hehe) here and there, went to a couple of movies, went to a billiard hall a couple times a week, did a little bit of souvenir shopping, explored the city on my own (no tour guides), took taxis at night and hit a few discos for some dancing and raggaeton :classic:

i was staying in the zona colonial and i ate out a lot because i didnt have a place with a kitchen but i stayed away from more expensive places like the hard rock and opted for the smaller, local restaurants and always found plenty of cheap and good meals from street vendors. breakfasts were included in my accomodations so i only really had to worry about a couple of meals a day.

i kept to a budget of about $50 USD/day and still had some money left over when i got home.

hope that helps!! have a great time!

By Santo Domingo, do you mean the capital city or the country? I ask because Europeans are known to call the country Santo Domingo. People's recommendations will differ if you are asking about spending 9 days in Santo Domingo or in the country in general.

Mmmmm.... Santo Domingo is for spending money shopping, dining out, dancing. But then there is the Botanical Garden, the Colonial City monuments, the Columbus Lighthouse, Aquarium, the art galleries (the Museum of Modern Art, Arawak, the Bellapart Museum). Jet Set is for dancing merengue, and not too expensive. If you watch what you eat (most main dishes can be split) and what you drink (they get you on the drinks), you can still enjoy Santo Domingo to the fullest. Also, take advantage of the beauty salons. Super value for hair cuts.

$50 USD sounds pretty good, keep your eyes on your budget and that should suffice, dont overdo it! LOL does this include transportation? how do you plan on getting around? i usually budget more since i am paying for gasoline....not cool :(

I have a friend out there who will be doing all the driving, but of course, if I want to be fair I must help out with gas costs!
I will be keeping a close eye on my budget... but I will definately keep in mind the extra costs such as gas... thank you all of your help! I can't wait!!!

55-60 US Dollars a day will be more than enough... or if you want to have a superday you can do nothing one day and spend 130-150 the other day.

A good place to eat cheaply are the Chinese restaurants at the bottom of Duarte (near the Zona Clonial) and now part of Santo Domingo's Barrio Chino.

wow! I really thought I would be needing more $$ than that. So I know I will have a great time and not come home broke.
Thanks for all your recommendations! If you have more places you love and I should be visiting-- please let me know!!!
I'm making a list of the spots to hit!

hi

I see you have tried to call Aurora del sol and had some challenges. If you call back and ask for SARA (she took care of me) i have faith in her that she will take care of you the same way she took care of me.

Thanks!!!
