The information has been corrected....that proposed law was never passed.

The opening hours for all drinking establishments in the country including casinos is governed by a decree issued by Leonel Fernandez as I understand it. Decree 308-06??

Exemptions need to be obtained for establishments to open beyond those hours and it is very normal for hotels to get such exemptions from national laws in development agreements. The question is therefore whether any of the closed establishments did so?

The rest of us living in the country are fortunately protected by a law on closing hours and increasingly it is being enforced strongly.

No, just the opposite. If you talk to Dominicans (and you gotta leave pedro clisante) they are 100% behind the change.

100% of them??? in Sosua or Santo Domingo?? Cause if you're talking Sosua then it's about 50-50. You tell me that the beach restaurant owners want this change....and it's 100% no.

Any time 100% of people agree on anything, there is a 100% chance some of them are telling you what they want you to hear.

Their success is not assured. There is plenty of risk in that location. But experience will be very helpful as well as knowing the right people. I wish them the best.

Maybe gonna be an old folk's home..

That'll fit in well with the new Sosua.

These are street food type places

I would like a nice Dominican restaurant, fresh fish would be a bonus.

I understand there is not much of a demand as most expats have no interest.
Actually, there isn't that much fresh fish. The waters around the DR have been heavily fished out, and reef fish can be problematic...

I disagree with this post. We have always caught fish in DR waters Much more and easier than in many other waters including the USVI and PR waters. I mean Dorado, swordfish, wahoo, and marli n are seasonal fish that pass through the area. How can they be fished out? Also, how are reef fish problematic? Ciguatera again?? If so, show me some statistics, because I personally find nothing wrong with eating reef fish from the DR. I do have an issue eating farm raised crap that is sold as fish though.

Hotel La Esplanada to Sosua Beach.....

It is a 1.6K walk or a 2.7K drive (one way streets)

That would be a 20 min walk during the heat of the day,
or a really scary 20+ min walk at night.

Don't forget all the broken sidewalks and Derelict bars along the way (all maintained by, or closed by, someone you know)

I bet those Derelict bars could be bought for a song (now).

Are you kidding? It's ON Pedro Clisante.

It's ONE kilometer from Sos?a beach.

Ten minutes . . .walking . . .slowly.

Geeez, I walk it daily, it is just around the corner from where I live. I walk at a good clip....it is 20 mins to the first toes touching sand. That is walking straight to the beach, no stops.

What was I thinking, yes, VERY FAR from the beach, and way, way, out of the way.

My apologies.

If what the authorities have done by setting the hours to 12 mindinight weekdays and 3 AM (not sure of the exact weekend time) on the weekends is illegal as some insist, then why are the business owners not challenging this in a court of law where it can be settled without any doubt instead of holding meetings?

I don't go to the beach so it's perfect for me... I just need to get to a bar with a seat in the shade and a steady breeze. I prefer a bar that serves beer and offers food as opposed to a restaurant that serves food and offers beer.

And yes, overweight couch potato tourists find walking more than 350 steps on uneven sidewalks in the sun an intensely objectionable experience to be avoided at all costs. Motos are usually too small for these folks so a taxi stand outside would be helpful. Know your customers...

It's the DR.

You misread. My post was that the majority were behind the changes 100%. I didn't say that 100% of Dominicans were behind it.

Yes, the beach vendors don't want any changes. But it's coming. The beach vendors and pc biz owners need to prepare for it.
