The obvious solution is for llana to introduce a town ordinance that requires all people within town limits to set there clocks ahead 4 hours. Midnight is now 4:00 am.

Everbody's happy.

They will still show up two hours late.

I hardly believe that going out one night, and the bar closing at 12 has totally put them off La R.D., I am confident there was more to their story as to why they wont be back.

I am starting to think that GuillermoRamon is an alias for the mayor of Sosua or whoever the real person is behind the early closings. It does NOT make sense and I feel for the business owners in Sosua.
As to the Canadians of subject not returning, If they were here Sun. - Thurs then it is not ONE night as you state in your last post.

Restaurant Orchidee will be opening again next week.

Don't expect Casa Valeria to be open anytime soon. It looks as if they're doing an almost total rebuild.

To each his own - no need to reinvent the wheel ..or to be embarrassed about nothing

What is worse in Cabarete?

Cabarete is a boring generic beach environment, no value for money.
Cabarete is great for kite surfers, retired condo/house owners.
I'd rather stay in California and have the real thing cheaper and better.
No Zika virus which is also in Florida now. http://in.reuters.com/article/us-health-zika-miami-idINKCN10U1OD

Sosua had the feeling of community, not generic nor boring.
Great shade beach for swimming, eating, people watching. Good food and drink, value for money.
Also Sosua is great for walking, no vehicle required.
PC was always great for food/drink people watching and partying.
Plenty of choices all price ranges for accommodation.
Just make Sosua welcoming, safe for tourists and have decent street lighting and medical services.
Family and package tourism is well taken care off in Punta Cana with fantastic hotels, beaches and services.

Huh? Kite surfers and retired condo/house owners like a boring place with no value for money? I don't think so. They and all the other people who come back every year have a different opinion from yours.

I always ask my clients (which the majority are single guys) if this is their first time and Sosua. Last week in particular I had many saying "yes", I also always ask them what they think. ALL of them ALWAYS say how amazing and crazy Sosua is, they are in awe and are planning their next trip. Not once was the early closing time mentioned, cause they go home after closing and continue. So for these newbies, Sosua is awesome. 5 years ago to a newbie, it was awesome, 10 years ago to a newbie it awesome.....see the cycle???

I personally hate the new closing times because I am aware of the impact it has on the local economy, but the average joe traveler doesn't care. Beach, party, sleep.

All of my customers are pretty upset about the hours, first time guys too and half have said they will be looking for somewhere else to go. Personally I think the hours will go back to normal before high season, I really hope they do anyways bc lots of people are extremely ****ed!

One congested narrow street to pass through.
Sandal and t shirt shops.
Beach restaurants with tips and tax included, pricing similar to US and Canada.
For those prices I eat better in Can, US or Germany.
Condo rentals USD 1500-2000 a month and up.
Beach not great for swimming, no shade.
Yes there are some good restaurants in Cabarete and the higher end US style condos are very comfortable.

Frank 12 is in Cabarete when he is not kayaking the fjords. That has to be a plus.

I tend to agree that it's boring.

I lived in Sosua, Cabarete and Puerto Plata (here in the DR).

Cabarete was the only place I where I got tired, one street and that's it. Wouldn't want to stay there again.

I think it's a nicer place for a vacation, but staying here a bit longer nope

We really need a good Sanky story, maybe a study of how Faustos' "business" has been affected by the new economy?

You seem to forget that the excitement is generated by SOSUA and comments in reference to Sosua!
Of course any insult to the peaceful community of Cabarete and tranquil residents of Cabarete is unintentional.
It is a lovely hamlet.

Frank 12
And the flaming bush,
The beach Scoundrels, sex crazed tourists and assorted drunk stories.
Tits on the bar and free drinks.
Is Cabarete only exiting when Frank is there??????
How about a concert with Windy and The Sex Pistols to add some life???
But please no sex - unless discreetly behind a palm tree!

Reading that with my first new bifocals and after a rum or two I thought at first you wrote 'excrement'.

Keep the thread going.....

Cabarete is sort of like Oz to those of us who live without cars in Sosua. We do purely LURVE to visit. It is wondair to be on the beach at night, drinking adult beverages and eating at restaurants apart from the 3-5 ones we Sosuans patronize regularly. Everyone has their 3-5. So a trip to Cabawretched is always a treat.

But I agree that the beach is not that great for swimming (well, bouncing around and floating) and the shade thing is an issue for those of us (I am a ginger who burns from walking in front of a lightbulb) who are sun-challenged. My hairdresser is in Cabarete; I love to go to dinner there with friends who rent cars; but as many issues as Sosua has---and I freely admit there are many---I'll take Sosua. For now.

Until I can find a windsurfer or a boring pensioner with a US$1500/mo condo at which I can hang my Panama hat.
