Frank 12
And the flaming bush,
The beach Scoundrels, sex crazed tourists and assorted drunk stories.
Tits on the bar and free drinks.
Is Cabarete only exiting when Frank is there??????
How about a concert with Windy and The Sex Pistols to add some life???
But please no sex - unless discreetly behind a palm tree!

This is the germ of a truly epic poem!

The bar opposite Bailey's in Sosua has been pulled down along with the row of gift shops next to it. I heard that this was a due to a court order as the tennants had not been paying rent for years. Also heard that a plaza will be built on this property. Los Gringos in Sosua and their chain of restaurants in Cabarete including Lazy Dog have closed, they say it is for vacations but makes no sense to close them all down. Morua Mai is closed, hopefully just for vacations though, would not like to see that place close down. The old La Roca building has had some movement over the last week of so, not sure whether this was an order by the authorities because of fire hazards though. Anybody got any info on any of these businesses?

It's called urban renewal. Sosua has been a problem child for DR officials for many years. I think they are looking for a lower profile for legal prostitution in Sosua. With prostitution comes a host of other problems and Sosua has had many. If you want a solid tourist business you need to attract families not just single men.

I live in Caberete. I like the Rest. here and in Sosua. I can walk to everything. Sousa is great sometimes, but I decided I didn't want to live there full time. I have a car so I'm not stuck in one place. Both places are good, depending what you are looking for. To each his own.

Business is bad everywhere on the NC. Just ask Big Frank. The high season is coming. It has to get better.

People will continue to come to the NC as long as the activities and accommodations people want are on offer at a price they can afford. When that changes, the decisions people make will also change. Cause and effect.

A question. Is there a eal sports bar in sousa? 5-6 TV sports pcg's. When I am in Sousa getting something to eat or in Playero, I get asked, wheer to go to see..... Used to be Eddy's. So now I tell them they have to go to Caberete and see Frank12. As has been said before. Pop is the most expensive airport in the Cab. Lower the tax get more people. There does seem to be more planes, but they seem to be gonig to Lifestyle or Dom. here to see family.

Cabarete
One congested narrow street to pass through.
Sandal and t shirt shops.
Beach restaurants with tips and tax included, pricing similar to US and Canada.
For those prices I eat better in Can, US or Germany.
Condo rentals USD 1500-2000 a month and up.
Beach not great for swimming, no shade.
Yes there are some good restaurants in Cabarete and the higher end US style condos are very comfortable.

I can disagree with most of those points, but especially the ridiculous one that condo rentals are US$1500 - 2000 and up. I can show you hundreds of very nice places much cheaper than that in Cabarete.

When I stay in Cabarete I like to stay beach front.
Depending on the group 1 or 2 Bdrm.
Ocean Dream, Ocean One or similar properties.
Close to everything quiet at night. When I stay in Cabarete second row is not good enough.
I also like walking distance to everything.

In Sosua I like Hispaniola Beach, Infinity Blu, Los Balcones but the comfort and walking distance has a price.

Brazilians at Cabarete Spas

Cabarete is sort of like Oz to those of us who live without cars in Sosua. We do purely LURVE to visit. It is wondair to be on the beach at night, drinking adult beverages and eating at restaurants apart from the 3-5 ones we Sosuans patronize regularly. Everyone has their 3-5. So a trip to Cabawretched is always a treat.

But I agree that the beach is not that great for swimming (well, bouncing around and floating) and the shade thing is an issue for those of us (I am a ginger who burns from walking in front of a lightbulb) who are sun-challenged. My hairdresser is in Cabarete; I love to go to dinner there with friends who rent cars; but as many issues as Sosua has---and I freely admit there are many---I'll take Sosua. For now.

Until I can find a windsurfer or a boring pensioner with a US$1500/mo condo at which I can hang my Panama hat.

Don't forget the nice Spa for waxing, saves a trip to Brazil!
I usually have a quick beer on the beach while waiting. Quick because the waxing does not take too long.
Then back for another beer and a snack with my Brazilian.

Sublime Pleasures

Reading that with my first new bifocals and after a rum or two I thought at first you wrote 'excrement'.

Keep the thread going.....

Seems that your new bifocals went temporarily out of focus.
Fortunately you went in for a second look.
Come to think of it those bifocals may enhance extracurricular activities also! ( You may have to come to Sosua for those)
May we never be out of excitement! :bunny::bunny::bunny:

Well, as you very well know Cdn, there are those of us that come back due to many reasons, por ejemplo, I have made friends in Sosua, (Snowbirds, Expats, and business owners) from my many visits, and that being said, I am familiar with things which gives a sense of ease. And before you comment on that sense of ease, because I already know you are biting your tongue... I do have a few "friends" that would actually help me if drama occurred.

Back to the tourista part:

I still stand behind the fact that Sosua is not a bad place to land as a tourist, it truly depends on what you find desirable. If I wanted to just lay low as a man vacationing with my significant other, and just want some nice dinners and lay on the beach, maybe role the dice/play some slots for a lark, Sosua has it...

On the other side of the coin, as the new world order is now dictating, "nightlife" is at a somewhat "dull roar". I on the other hand, have a novia, so to me, I need not the "nightlife" so just partaking in beverages at the checkpoint, going for walks, the odd beach day, and some nice dinners works for me.

Different strokes, different folks....

As far as Sosua being dead, usually the month of August (for the 11 years I have lived here) were extremely slow. I cannot speak for Pedro Clisante, nor for the other projects and hotels around Sosua, but Infiniti Blu has been full of wealthy Dominicans and their families. It is great to see them all on the beach and in the pool enjoying their time together.

I don't know most of them, but I do know one large group that was here renting several condos at IB and several places elsewhere. Although we have a beautiful beach here, they spent yesterday afternoon at Sosua Beach also.

Next door, Gaansvorte was also busy, as noted by the cars parked and blocking entrance to the IB gate I used. The people I saw coming and going from there were Dominican.

IB has a new restaurant owner. They told me that they intended just to do food delivery within Infiniti Blu. However, Hispa?ola met with them and begged to include their residents, who want delivery of higher quality food - not fast food, pizza, or fried food.

I think there is a growing demand for higher quality restaurants. I think the model of Sosua IS slowly changing. My own life will not be affected. I have no use for the Pedro Clisante activity, but I do not condemn it, either. I am just making a summary of my observations.

What is your business?

All of my customers are pretty upset about the hours, first time guys too and half have said they will be looking for somewhere else to go. Personally I think the hours will go back to normal before high season, I really hope they do anyways bc lots of people are extremely ****ed!
