Money alway wins and when all the individually and quaintness is gone from a place it just becomes a clone of another.
I've spoken to many Dominicans regarding losing the beach as it is now and they are all against it. But most don't know all the plans, they only know it won't be beneficial to low income Dominicans.
They do see walls and guards at many places and it translates to "Not Welcome Here"
How about this. Let's put it to a local vote.
Are these serious investors willing to let Democracy and not bribes be the decision.
Because I guarantee you the vote will be 90 ? for No To Condos, and No To Dismantling Beach Businesses.

Not to compare Sosua with Juan Dolio but look what closing all the A1's to build condos did to that resort town. The only comparison is that they are/were tourists towns.
It was not a good outcome.

Less aggressive beach vendors. Most annoying Sosua beach vendor could probably be a topic on its own <<You must not have been to other Countries, its not only in La R.D.....

or haven't been to Cabarete for that matter.....Sosua's vendors are nothing compared to Jamaican vendors.

RE: Condos on the Beach

We had a similar situation at Playa Grande when the Beach Club went in.

They wanted to build their club and villas in the middle of the beach - where the shacks & vendors were.
The vendors were up in arms.
The builder bought up all the 'stray' shacks ($15,000) each and kept the rest.
He clothed and tagged them as official Vendors & shacks.

Then they moved the shack area to the east end of the beach.
A total realignment of the world as it then existed.

Being the all seeing genius that I am, I predicted failure.
To top it off , they had taken away my favorite spot !!!
How could they survive with out me !!????

I did not hear one vote of confidence for this project... zero .

The world progressed,
new parking at the east end, new brightly painted shacks, new entrance off the road.
All in vain , I continued.

Many of you will find it hard to believe that I was wrong.

The vendors & shacks have never made more money. - never been happier.
More Dominicans come than ever before.
An an unadultered success.

Naturally, I boycott the place...
and still, without my approval or participation, it flourishes.

Who knows what will happen in Sosua?
If this model is any indication - I have an inkling.......

The beach club is not such a hit, the locals are waaaay ahead.

BTW, 4 large villas are under construction there now .
Lets see what develops.

And that land?wner will have helped create hundreds of permanent jobs. Plus hundreds of construction jobs. Architects, engineers, truck drivers, hundreds of thousands of dollars in materials from all over the island.
It always amazes me how people find fault with this.

They simply chose this location because it fits their business model. They looked at many other properties here, Sos?a has no shortage of available properties, and the Esplanada property offered the best value for them.

One would think that in order to develop a location that one would have to own it. If it was not already owned by the developer, they would have to buy it.
And of course do things with the cooperation of the local government and here that does cost money.

From what I've seen in Sosua everything is for sale around here too. Take a drive up murder alley, also known as La Mulatas 1 to whatever. Crap there are houses there for sale that have been on the market since ladies of the evening were delighted with 500 pesos.
Let the condos go forward and the majority of tourists will be two guys on motors coming from Gaspar Hernandez to rob the new condos.
Hey maybe that's good. Divert a few less breakins from the other villas for a few weeks.

Playa Grande succeeds but the Vendors are only a couple shacks below the parking lot. And if you don't get there before 9 AM you won't get a chair or shade because the trees where you used to sit are no longer available.
Anyway I have a pool. It's less trouble than going to the beach anyway and people don't **** in it.

Take a quick trip to Puerto Rico. Condos or Hotels on every beach. Result is the Puerto Ricans bring their own ice chests and leave their beer cans and food wrappers and whatever other trash for the owners to clean up.
But maybe Dominicans will clean up and haul their trash home? It would be a shame to see DR imitate PR.
Punta Cana seems to be the model AIs only damn the places locals can save for themselves.

yes, in the summer, that end of the beach is smaller.
Winter brings a bigger beach while the west end sucks the bucket.

I sense your agreement with me about disliking the new arrangement.
