A lot of businesses closed in Sosua
Heard a different take on the La Esplanada investment today from a person of credibility. Won't repeat hearsay. But have a few concerns.

I don't even know where la Esplanada is; maybe close to club residencial. Please throw us a few bones, the suspense is killing me. Will it cater more toward families or mongers?

The normal question here in the DR regarding what "they" want to know is this:
Will La Esplanada be "guest friendly"?
The rest of us would like to know who are the powers behind it and when will they be allowed to continue working on that location.
The project is going to be developed as a "high-end" all inclusive hotel including a restaurant which is also going to be open to the public. The property will have a "sports" theme including fitness and training facilities. Their targeted demographic will be active/athletic vacationers and they will be providing services and activities on both Cabarete and Sos?a beaches.
Lindsey, with all due respect, if you have heard anything different than this representation which I re-posted above, I can assure you it certainly is hearsay. This was the how the OWNER described the project to me.
Just the fact that you found it necessary to post that you "heard a different take" qualifies as repeating hearsay.
Post your concerns, although I can't speak on behalf of the owner or investors and have deferred the posting of certain details to another dr1 member who categorizes himself as a personal friend of the owner/investors, I do have general first hand knowledge of the project and would be more than happy to share it.
Sorry, no. To each story there are two sides. I have heard both. Before I repeat anything, I will wait to see what transpires. I know no more than what I hear. What I heard was from someone who I personally hold credible.
My motive in posting the comments was in response to all the hype.
About a year ago there was a restaurant opening in Sosua. The dr1 board was lit up on a daily basis with hype about this restaurant and all it was going to be.
It closed its doors within 6 months. The food was not very good. The service poor. And no business.
I always try to keep a level head and approach life with objectivity. Let's wait and see whether the new owner can follow through on all you say. I hope they do. I hope that all you write comes to pass. And if it does, I will be one of the first at the doors and here on dr1 to congratulate him.
Building is not easy here in this country. Managing a project such as this is a true challenge.
I choose to give the guy a chance to transform the project. But for now, I will not promote it, nor repeat what I heard. I hope you can respect that.

It was truly meant to be a compliment.
Hopefully the project under discussion will move forward after the appropriate pay-offs are made and it will be a rousing success, more then countering the downturn in business caused by the current situation.
One can dream.
