If they had bought and paid for the Pan Am logo, I doubt they would have used the name PAWA (which sounds vaguely Indonesian) or failed to use the PanAm logo. The name Pam American Dominicana is rather unwieldly. Maybe they only bought the rights to the words "Pan American" or perhaps they did not legally have to.

Would not surprise me if they bought the recently (last year) defunct Dutch Antillies Express fleet which had the same planes............and flew into SDQ most days.

Now that was a terrible airline in it's final months and the planes were very old KLM stock.

DEA actually used a wet-lease construction with Falcon Air Express for the MD-83. Interesting they also hired the owner of Falcon to be the CEO of DEA (Same guy who got Aeropostal almost bankrupt). So he was leasing his own airplanes from DEA and getting a good price. He made sure that Falcon got their money from DEA off course. When DEA went Bankrupt he made sure that his airplanes went back to the USA asap and leaving many debts with DEA.. Off course the bankrupty of DEA was a no fui yo by him...

Pan American (PAN-AM) aviation-related rights are currently with a railroad company

They own it since 1998

If PAWA actually uses just PAWA they are right. if they write anywhere "Pan American World Airways" even with "Dominicana" suffix, they are in trademark breach. They would actually be better off using Panamericana Dominicana, or a similar sort of word tweaks.

If you can read Spanish, read the newspaper article!!!!

"PAWA" stands for "Pan American World Airways, not some "Indonesian Word"!!!!!

Yes, CCC, I know what the article says. But a logo is something easily recognizable, not 4 words and 22 letters in English. PAWA does not sound like the name of a Caribbean airline to me.

In Mexican Spanish, a Pahua (pronounced the same way) is a type of avocado. But avocados are not creatures of the air, are they?

The Spanish language generally does not even use the letter W, so PAWA sounds less Hispanic than say, Avianca, Aerom?xico, LAN Chile or Conviasa.

Nonetheless, I wish them well.

Perhaps they could have tried Braniff Dominicana.

They have a "Zero Chance" to survive, that is not the reason they exist.
It's just another Dominican scam to launder drug money and cheat their customers and creditors.
One MORE TIME!!!!!!!

'Well it may or may not be a scam, but it is not the same people that caused the original PanAm to go broke.

I think Warren Buffett said that if the stock market were rational, airlines would not exist.

Buffett has on numerous occasions stated that airlines have all the hallmarks of a terrible business: "one that grows rapidly, requires significant capital to engender the growth, and then earns little or no money."

I don't think I would ever invest in any airline.
