A reliable alternative to Lynx Air in SD ??

Since Lynx Air announced they will no longer service DR after the end of the year, I've been scrambling to find a reliable mail forwarder to SD.

Some kind souls have referred me to Agape International, which flies in mail to Santiago Airport from Saratoga, FL. The problem is, they don't seem to service Santo Domingo, where I live.

Do you folks know of any viable alternatives ? It makes me shudder to think I'll now have my statements, letters and magazines at the mercy of INPOSDOM. Argggggg !

Yes, Lynx will no longer be flying to the Dominican Republic as of the end of the year. The service to Haiti has been carrying the DR for several years and it was just a matter of time until they had to cut their losses. We are switching to Agape Flights International out of Sarasota FL. To see if they will be the right company for you, you can contact their agent in Santiago Irv Hirsch. He represents Agape here in the DR and he explained the process of using their mail service, their fees, and your responsibility to help with mail. Here is my summary of the conversation:

Fees:

$100 per year for 1rst class mail (including magazines)

$100 per year for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th class

$1 per pound for any piece of mail over one pound... no minimum $5 charge or anything like that

Mail is delivered each THURSDAY to the Santiago airport. The mail is available for pick up on Saturday mornings (you can also drop off any outgoing mail on Thursday mornings or Saturday mornings).

You are expected to help at the airport (or on a Saturday at the office) on a rotating basis. He said that right now the expectation is twice every three months, BUT that they expect to have many new people sign up and that could change to as little as once every six months.

Has everyone forgot about EPS [Express Parcel Service]??? They are based in Miami and have several places in the DR--Puerto Plata, Santiago, La Romana, and, I believe , the Capital. The last I knew, their yearly fee was only US$35.00.

Yes, but they do charge a fee (DR $13 or so) per piece of mail on top of that, and based on the large volumes of magazines, catalogues..etc I subscribe to, not to mention the unsolicited junk mail, I'd probably end up paying US$1,000 per year for their service.

Any flat-fee mail forwarder out there ?

What is INPOSDOM? Also, am wondering ... with DR relying so heavily on tourism, many foreigners spending entire winters there, and, as compared to other countries, WHY is there no postal system in the DR? I, too, would be anxious to see a system developed for mail... -Mame-
