Can anyone tell me where is a good place in Santo Domingo to live. Im thinking about moving to DR and I want to live in Santo Domingo. I also have another question i heard that light complected dominicans have it easier than dark complected dominicans. Is that true??? If so why...

Where and how you live can often be determined by your budget.
A few more details and expectations will help us answer your question.

Skin color... Just look in your own backyard to answer that one.

Skin color: same true in US to some extent with light skinned African Americans vs darker skinned African Americans. There are ther examples worldwide, I'm sure, like Rob said.

Rob, I was sure you'd recommend your book! It is pretty good, by the way. :)

Dear Key--

Rob and Sarah are right: your budget will determine where you live. However, if you can afford upscale, try the sections called Gazque or Anacaona--- absolutely beautiful. The "best" is on the west side, although you can find decent things on the other side of the Ozama.

As far as the skin color thing goes, it is largelybased on "history and Haiti". The darker the skin the more African you have in your background. Many Dominicans are descended from slaves that were brought there centuries ago. They intermingled/intermarried and the rest is, literally, history.

Try and put that aside, however. GO and be yourself.

best neighborhoods would be:Naco,Piantini,Bella Vista,Arroyo Hondo,Mirador Sur.
rent runs from RD$ 8000,00-25,000,00.

do yourself a favor and skip the poor neighborhoods.it will be enough if you just visit or pass through them.
