Abel Martinez is diagnosed with Covid-19

Santiago Mayor Abel Martínez has been diagnosed with Covid-19. He had been hospitalized at the Union Medica del Norte in Santiago for pneumonia on 28 November 2022 because he has asthma. He tested positive for Covid-19. It is the third time Martínez catches Covid-19. His medics say his condition is stable and he could be discharged from the hospital in 48 to 72 hours.

In October 2022, he was chosen the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) pre-candidate for the 2024 presidential race. His campaign activities will need to be rescheduled.

The Ministry of Public Health says that the fast-spreading XBB variant of Omicron is circulating locally.

For people with compromised immune systems this can't be good news.
