I think my reply one of the most rational here!
Nadie you are beating your head against a wall. Unfortunately in today's world some men think that they should still have control over women and their bodies.
Trust me, if men could get pregnant there would be an abortion clinic on every street corner.
I bet most of these prolife guys would be running to the closest abortion clinic if something happened to one of their loved ones and had to have the pregnancy terminated. Hell most of them probably already have. That's why they are so vocal about something that is none of their business

And you march with the antiquated Church. And ask no questions.
I am non religious as is my family for a number of generations. My beliefs are based on science and humanity. You march to the progressive god with no moral structure. Apparently the girl was bleeding heavily on her way back from the beach and they stopped and she changed her clothing it was so soaked in blood. The teacher tried to get her to go to the hospital but she refused and when she got home she wasnt bleeding very much and told her mother she was on her period and was fine. She put on a santitary napkin and went to bed and was dead in rhe morning.

I will delete and give vacations for any further debate that is strictly on abortion!

Enough of the arguing.

With respect , the subject as posted by Dolores was the complete about face by the PRD who used to approve of three grounds that were permitted to have an abortion. When the PRD were in opposition they were very vocal about granting these three exceptions . However, now that they are the governing party they have sided with the PLD in not allowing these three exceptions. The second arm of the story by Dolores related to the young girl in Higuey who was reported to have died after having an illegal abortion. This story has apparently been changed to say that she bled to death after rough sex. I would suggest that it is quite possible that the parents are trying to build a case against the teacher who may be quite innocent of any crime. I can only voice my disappointment that The Parliament has not permitted these three exceptions.

The news article was about an incident in Higüey that resulted in the death of a teenager.

The pro and anti abortion rhetoric is off topic.

The one thing missing now is what the teacher has to say about the incident. I'm curious to hear what he has to say.

The news article was not about the incident but how the incident has brought up the abortion debate again because it was originally stated she died from taking abortion pills (which was later said to not have been the case).

The article did not engage in pro or anti abortion rhetoric.

I was wondering the same thing. Perhaps his lawyer told him to lay low, shut up, and find enough money to buy his way out of this.

There certainly are illegal abortions performed here, and no doubt that a few rich people send their wayward daughters off to have them performed in NJ or NY. The vast majority of pregnant teenagers in this country know that when they have intercourse, they could get pregnant and when it happens, they have the baby. Many (most) think the child is a blessing. I live in a neighborhood with a lot of teenaged mothers, and we have quite a few of the children in our school that their mothers were teenagers when they had them. Many of these people have American visas or even citizenship and could afford to send their daughter off to Tia in NYC for an abortion. That they don't attest to the facts that the majority of Dominicans love children, and do not believe in aborting a child. My observations from being surrounded by poor Dominicans every day and going to a lot of baby showers with my wife. Babies are celebrated in this country. Personally, I believe that abortion should be legal, carried out only in a hospital (no PP clinics) and restricted to the first 12-14 weeks of pregnancy and mandatory counseling both before and after an abortion. I do also believe that life begins within a week of pregnancy and that abortion is the killing of a child. I don't have a religious bone in my body, in fact I am unreligious.
Thank you for sharing your opinion and experiences. I respect both.

And you believe this report (sanctioned by church before it is released).
I merely translated the latest news, according to Diario Libre.

I'm an unapologetic atheist, heretic, Satanic worshiper... whatever you wanna call me. But it was a shoddy attempt at translating bits of the news for the benefit of those who do not read "espagniol."

And here's the gist of today's article in Hoy newspaper:

The preliminary findings are not conclusive, and further investigation, including toxicology testing, are warranted.
