Do you know if they are actually flying into La Samana or bussing the people in from another airport?

They are not showing any of this info on their website yet. They aren't even showing flights or packages for late December either.

Where did you see this?

I have access to some travel agent sites and I found a July 7 announcement about two new destinations; Jamaica and Puerto Rico BUT... I found no mention of Samana.

Give me some direction and I may be able to find it.

That will be on the brochure

I got this news from the internal e-mail that we have.

Travel agents from across Canada were given a preview of Transat?s new vacation products when they attended spectacular 2004-2005 season launches last week. The events, which brought Nolitour / World of Vacations and Transat Holidays together for the first time, attracted a total of 4000 agents in four cities: Montreal, Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver.

During this highly anticipated event, Transat Holidays also introduced its new name to the agency industry and officially launched its 2004-2005 season. For its part, Nolitour / World of Vacations unveiled its new image, which it has harmonized with that of Transat by swapping its star for the Group?s new one.

From Western Canada you can also access Samana, but they are flying them into POP and then bussing it over. This I know for sure!

I checked the online brochure and the only resorts being offered in Samana (that I could see) were the Casa Marina Bay (which I think was offered by WOV before?) and the Occidental Gran Bahia.

It is good to see that the Gran Bahia is back in circulation for Canadian AI travellers. This is the hotel that my husband and I stayed at the first time we went to the DR. It really is a lovely place, with a style that I just haven't found anywhere else.

Transat, please don't take what I am about to say the wrong way. I've had some BAD experiences with Air Transat in the past, so I hope that the combining of WOV/Transat/Nolitur will help to resolve some of these problems. The problems that I encountered had to do with very long delays (one was eleven hours). Now I realize that sh*t happens when one travels, but my main complaint has to do with how these delays were handled. Very poorly and in a very frustrating way. They gave us travel vouchers to make up for the delay, but I also ran into problems (getting the wrong information) when I went to use the travel vouchers.

I don't want to turn this into any more of a rant than it already is so I will stop here :). I just want to express my sincere hope that the "new" company will be able to resolve some of the customer service problems that I have encounted in the past.

Best of luck with the new company and new destinations.

Samana shows up in the Canadian brochures every few years. usually it has been sunquest offering it: YYZ to POP and then choice of bus to Samana or for extra $$ take the 45 minute flight. 2 years ago they were supposed to fly into Arroyo Barril but i think it is only recently that the airport has been (semi) operational.

Dont worry rmary the company is aware of that problem the lack of comunication but theres a new procedure for delays now,and also theres a new program they call that HEAD START with this new system the delays are avoided in chains that was the problem before.

Take care!

I actually booked a trip to the Gran Bahia leaving on the 28th. I wasn't given an option to fly from Puerto Plata to Samana - just a bus that they estimate to be 3 hours. It is with Transat Vacations - I'll let everyone know how it turns out when I get back.

I have stayed at Gran Bahia & Casa Marina bay in the past, both with Transat, I believe. Gran Bahia, we had a bus ride from POP. Quite pleasant. CMB, we changed planes at POP & we flew into Arroyo Baril, just us & the pilot. FANTASTIC!! We were offered & accepted some ridge hopping. I highly recommend it. Stan
